Mixed balanced+unbalanced circuit with differential ADC

Author Mixed balanced+unbalanced circuit with differential ADC

Hello,

Big noobie questions below ...

I am planning on building a circuit using a differential ADC codec like the Cirrus CS5368. The CS5368 features a differential delta-sigma ADC.

I was wondering what was the best practice to handle either balanced or unbalanced connections, while trying to maximize the performance of the circuit (SNR, Dynamics etc)?
I am aware of the circuitry in order to convert an unbalanced signal to a balanced signal thanks to two op amps (seen page 18 of this board e.g.) or the possibility to use a THAT1200 for example ...
But I would like to have the system handle balanced signals/connections as well as unbalanced ones, on the same plug.

Some questions are:
- how to detect the presence of a TRS (balanced) cable, and switch to different circuitry?
- in case of a TRS balanced cable, do I wire directly the + and - to the AIN+/- respectively?

Thanks !
