1 µP
is a split release by
special stage and paper kettle
1/13/2011 Edit:
Due to overwhelming interest, good vibes, and the fun we've had, we're making this release freely available to everyone, right now. Download at:
http://www.paperkettle.com
It is being released under a Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0 license, so you're free to do a whole lot with it too.
If you download it to burn your own, and feel like donating $5 to us, PM me for my paypal address, but that isn't required or even expected.
Ordering Physical Chips:
If you would still like to purchase a chip, please email chris@paperkettle.com with the subject:
"Purchase Request: (Quantity You Want To Buy) (Country We're Shipping The Chips To)"
We had a limited run of handpainted chips to celebrate the SID and 2A03. These are already spoken for, but we'll order more plain blanks to meet any demand. Also, we might have some more game related releases on the way... RSS paperkettle.com and subscribe to special stage's youtube for details!
We've been having a lot of fun with this. Thanks a ton! _________________ paperkettle.com

So, the rom chip that it comes on will fit right into the Piston expander? _________________ www.exuviae-music.com |

Also, for those that care about such things, the SID waves were recorded from an early 6581 (manufactured in 1983) in my low-noise super deluxe midibox. The filters in SIDS of this vintage have a certain lo-fi juice to them that I prefer over the 8580's or even later revision 6581's. All filter modes (LP BP HP) are represented for each wave except noise, with 16 cutoff steps. This allows for filter modulations by sweeping through the yon banks. You also get one bank of 16 PW steps for the unfiltered pulse wave.

The SID banks have a unique wave at each slot. There is some repetition in the NES waves because the chip has a much narrower range to begin with -Bricks can provide more detail on this.
Edit: just fyi there are a total of 208 waves based on the SID. |

Indeed, the NES has a more restricted palette. For example, there are only 4 steps of pulse width (12.5%, 25%, 50%, and 75%), and no multimode filter like the SID.
That said, the NES only takes up 3 of the Hither banks, and there will be at least 21 unique NES waveforms. I'm experimenting with a few more, as well as the possibility of Gameboy. _________________ paperkettle.com

I'm going to need a 2nd piston honda just for all the roms
I wish it had a front loading slot instead like the zdsp, so you could swap roms in/out easier. _________________ http://bandcamp.attacksustain.com |

I completely agree. It would probably be relatively easy to build a sort of breakout board module that would bring the sockets out to a front panel. Not the most functional thing ever, but it would look pretty bad ass having all those naked chips facing outwards. |
