Video Signal Strength

I have a few of the Critter and Guitari little video synths.

The Videoscope and the Rhythmscope.

They seem to have a weak signal output that a Korg Entrancer won't seem to do anything with.

Does anyone have any insight on this issue and maybe a solution?

Thanks for any help!
FetidEye
there is also the Critter @ Guitari forum, have you tried there?

As far as I can tell the RCA outputs a composite signal, which should be good.
Have you tested it with a videomixer?

i bring everything into my computer with a Roland VR-3EX and it doesn't have any issues but the signals from any one of my three C&G things all seem not to have as robust vid signals...also their images tend to display off center.

the Entrancer just doesn't like the C&G stuff.

i will check over on that other thread.

thanks!

That's because they output a 240p video signal. It's not too weak, it's kind of a hack that early game systems commonly used. You may be able to use an upscaler of some sort.

I'm currently dealing with the same issue with a B&W Video Scope, nes clone, and Ming Mecca.

i couldn't find an upscaler that outputs composite as well.
they all seem to just upscale to HDMI output and the Entrancer only has a composite vid input.

is there anything you have found to help or have any suggestions?

Unfortunately not really. I have an Edirol V-8 which kind of works, but after a while looses sync. In my case, i'm trying to get 240p signals to work with LZX modules. Thier TBC2 module is supposed to be the magic bullet for this problem, but hasn't neen released yet.

That said, look for a timebase corrector. You may find one that works.

Actually, somebody on the LZX forums had mentioned that the Panasonic AVE-5 works with 240p sources. I just tried my AVE-3, and that works flawlessly. You can find them pretty cheap on ebay. The cool thing about the AVE-3, 5, and 7 is that they're really easily circuit-bendable.
FetidEye
yeah, we have panasonic mixers as well. try the above.
it is definitely a resolution problem.

you should be able to score a panasonic mixer for less than 50$

av5 / 7 / mx10 etc

check the interwebs or 2nd hand stores

thanks for the info everyone!

i do have an AVE-5 but it's not working correctly.
lights come on but it gets stuck at bootup and won't let me change any settings.
very frustrating
