Author boosting audio signals for audio-rate modulation?

forgive me, I'm stupid.

i'm trying to boost an audio signal from typical level to something like +-5v.

Am I wrong in thinking that this is extremely common? Which VCAs should I use for this?

god i'm so dumb it just hurts sometimes.

do you mean line-level?

the intellijel quad vca has +6dB of gain

mutable instruments veils has +20db of gain

you don't need a voltage controlled amplifier - you just need an amplifier so you could also use the doepfer amplifier module iirc (can't remember the number) - which may be a better fit

Are you trying to boost an external line level audio signal or one from within your modular?

You shouldn't need to boost an internal modular audio signal.

For an external line level signal use an external input/amplifier module.
