A possibly over generic question: if I had an analog mixer with pre EQ inserts on each channel how difficult would it be to change that to post EQ?

depends on the mixer. some of them have little jumpers and it's as easy as moving the jumpers to other pins.

pretty much anything can be done w/an analogue console if you know what you are doing. google will be your friend as to the specifics of whatever mixer you are trying to mod.

what board is it?
you'll want to obtain a schematic.

Ive taken a punt on an old allen and heath sr16 plus, it is apparently cosmetically nearly minty and in full working order... comes with schematics but they are all online anyway. http://www.allen-heath.co.uk/veterans/product.asp?product=SR%20Plus

Im yet to go through the instructions to see if its as simple as jumper settings, would be nice if it is...

Hoping to mod it to allow post-EQ inserts out to my soundcard so I can get a 'wet' out from each channel.

If its difficult then I might just settle for using the pre's but ideally Id have that EQ too.

it would appear there is a jumper system that allows you to put it either, pre eq, pre fader or post fader..
So it sounds like you have options.
Allen&Heaths are nice boards. Have fun with it! smile

That's great news... this is my delaying of getting the zed R16 which Ive been heavily GASing over for some time now. Just hope its as good as it says it is; bit of an ebay gamble on this.

It looks like the "pre-fader" setting is post EQ.

^ That looks right, though Im not sure thats the aux send as opposed to channel insert... think getting the insert to send post EQ might require a bit more work.

According to the schematic there is an EQ Cut switch which will bypass the EQ. So if you plug into the Insert jack and push that switch, then you are essentially post EQ. (though you don't get the EQ going out the insert jack)

Otherwise it looks like you would have to cut traces and maybe add a resistor and cap to the insert in to create a true post EQ insert..

^ thanks for the help, it might be that I can make do with the aux sends being post as I rarely EQ anything other than the modular.... 4 channels should be enough. In an ideal world Id get a mod done to switch between pre and post on each insert, in reality having the 4 channels running post EQ may be enough.

a friend of mine modded a midas live mixer in a similar way. the client braught in a printed forum post with pics on breaking the trace on the PCB. after he did the work they told him it was a $10,000 mixer. he almost shit his pants cause he is not really a tech and thats an expensive mixer to learn on.
