I'd like to get one/two to interface my kenton with modular.
It's passive (I think ) so I was just wondering if it's working ok with cvs. |
I like passive switches because CV's are un-fucked with, especially 1V/Oct. I built 2 similar modules but they use pushbuttons. Earlier on I built one with rotaries, but push buttons make more sense to me as you have instant access and don't have to 'scroll' - like to get from #1 to #4. Never used the Moon one myself. I'm always a little surprised more people aren't into switches as it's an easy passive DIY and very playable in real-time modular fashion. Mine get a lot of use.
I'm not going to embed this and highjack your thread (worse than I am), but here's a good example of how I use mine if you're interested. I use them a lot to switch between different rhythmic trigger streams, usually from either Volta or the Moon Modular trigger sequencer. The 4-bank matrix switcher is in the upper right and is functionally equivalent to the Moon 591 (4x4 matrix). One row clocks the Modcan sequencer, 2 rows control the Moon Modular trigger seq and one row acts as 'tap tempo' for the Modcan DDL.

This is something I ignored...always thought the best way to distribute cvs was thru active machines....

Definetly the best thing, I agree but I can't really DIY anything

Well distributing to a bunch of destinations, yeah you'd want a buffer there. I don't look at a switch as a distributor though. As long as contacts are clean etc for all intents and purposes the switch is a straight wire so you're 1V/Oct is not messed with. _________________ "Anything worth taking seriously is worth making fun of."

I think M591 could act as a switch and/or as distributor and that's why I'm not sure.... for example if you have "cv1 to vco1 / cv2 to vco 2" you can switch to "cv1 to vco 1 and 2" same thing with trigger/gates for envelopes and so on... it sounds very useful, expecially live _________________ https://www.facebook.com/khnshs

Just got a 591. Am using it to select cv/gate pairs from either encore expressionist or sequencers, and then distribute them to four destinations. Works like a charm. Highly recommended.
There are also internal multipin connectors that would appear to interface with other moon modules. A lot of future potential with the moon system for more performance oriented instruments.
Cheers,

| I have had one for some time now and whenever I show the rig to someone with at least some understanding of modulars they always think about it for a few minutes and then  "Wow, that is a fantastic bit of kit!" |
