Freqbox or Cyber Psychic

Post by 22tape » Sat Jan 31, 2009 1:36 am

hey guys. any opinions on either of these?

the freqbox is a lot more flexible. but from the very few clips online of both of these, the Cyber Psychic sounds meaner (in a good way)

opinions?

better yet, audio clips?

:)

thanks!

Have you heard these samples?
http://lalweb.com/fxsamplesounds.html

I had a freqbox i got rid of for euro modules, never had a cyber psychic, but after hearing the samples of it, i'd get the cyber psychic if i were to buy one of these two now. I bet the freqbox going through the psychic would sound sick tho. The psychic kinda reminds me of the jomox resonator effects a little bit.

thanks. yeh, i've listened to those clips 101 times :hihi: and there are only two demos that are on youtube.

funny you mention T/M Resonator-- i'm trying to decide if either the freqbox or cyber psychic would be on par with the jomox boxes sound-wise. i've owned both the jomox boxes so i know how great they sound. maybe i should just stick with what i know sounds good. but damn the cyber psychic sounds sick!

Have you seen, Analoggers cyber videos?

I love his videos

The Freqbox is fun(I had a blast playing with gaslampmusehogs), but you can do what it does with an envelope follower and any other osc you have in your rack.(can't you?)

The freqbox is badass! I use it with my modular all the time guys. the AFG sync'd to the Freqbox is HUGE! I think it's alot more than just an envelope follower for sure. All the cv in's..... you can automate the entire pedal from your module. That's one pedal I'd never sell in a hundred years. I have it in a moogerfooger rack all by itself, lol.

hey tbs, you don't have any audio clips of the freqbox in action, do you? demos are few and far between...especially using it in a modular/electronic music setup.

thanks!

I have some, I will go dig them up.
Keep in mind that most of my anger gets put into making music/noise. (probably more fun to make than listen too for others)
Add in a metasonix TX-1,TM-7 and TM-1 on top of that and you get a fucked wall of noise that isn't all that appealing to some.....

I'll be back with ear missiles.

awesome, thanks man! honestly, i'd rather hear it in its raw-est dirtiest state instead of mixed in nicely into a track anyway...

 :hihi:
K, I just went through the jams with the Foogers/metasonix, and it is so completly toasted you don't really get a good idea of what the Freqbox is doing, other than shrieking

TBS will have to make some demos.

I found a FreqBox for really cheap recently, so I jumped on it. I think it is a keeper for me, but then again I don't have a modular synth - only some MoogerFoogers and a Little Phatty. I can see how if you have a modular with a couple of VCOs already, the FreqBox wouldn't be as high on your list.

Here's my quick assessment of the FreqBox: in "sync" mode, it does exactly what they claim and it tracks very well, but the sounds you get will typically have distortion and clipping. It's just unavoidable because you get those rough edges when hard-syncing a waveform like that. This may be great for you, it may not.

So far I've used my FreqBox a lot more with the sync turned off, just as a voltage-controlled oscillator. It sounds great, and it's a lot of fun with my other Foogers (MF-103 Phaser and CP-251).

I think if I were buying something to use as an effects box (i.e. to run external signals through), I'd probably go with the Cyber Psychic instead.
