Are other people also using SLRs for shooting video?

I have been using a Nikon D-90 in this way recently.
Having a bit of lens variety to shoot with is very nice.

Using a tripod with a smooth panning head is recommended.
Velbon C-600 is what I use.
If the camera is jostled you get jello-shots.

I am loving the LensBaby Composer Pro
for shooting the TV as it displays waveforms from the MFB VD-01.
The VD-01 is 8 bit. It is like the Nintendo Famicom of oscilloscopes.
Shooting it with the LensBaby allows you to blur it in a controlled way until it looks like 3-D bubbles.
The way the glass effects the image seems a bit like what an analog filter does to a gritty digital wave.

I use a canon t2i for my work. Many for rescanning work, and original footage to process. I use it with a video tripod and a fluid head. I use old broadcast cameras for feedback work. The mix of hd and analog gives a nice range of results.

I have a Nikon D90 - how do I get it connected to my Video Sync Generator?

Edit: nevermind - doesn't look like anyone is using their dslr for that smile

I may order a cheap security camera this week. I think it's the final piece to my video puzzle.

Some cameras have a mini hdmi out, but most display info when mirroring the screen. Which kinda blows.

Anything with a composite video or YPrPb (Component) output should work, that's the feature that you want to look for.

Using those Lensbaby lenses for doing rescan stuff off of a monitor sounds very exciting!

I've done quite a lot of my YouTube vids with my Nikon D300s. thumbs up Probably a majority of the ones in the last 12 months or so were done with my Sony video cam.

EDIT d'oh! NEVER MIND! I didn't realize which forum this was in! Nope, I haven't gotten into video synthesis . . . yet.

the music video i shot, i used a d90, vhs camcorder and an old tube camera. i had 2 other guys shooting with a cannon 7d and some other dslr with video. because you cant plug the dslr's directly into the synth i reprocessed the footage later. plus that was better for me to be able to sit down and make the patch that i wanted rather then spending that time on the shooting day

I used a Canon 60D but replaced it with a Panasonic GH2 a couple of months ago. The 60D is awesome, too, but I'm completely happy with the Pana now.

I use two Canon T2I (550D for the Euros) for HD shooting. Otherwise it's a mix of VHS-C and CCTV cameras for other purposes.

Agreed that they look like jelly if you rustle them too much, but that's the drawback of a rolling shutter.

Canon just released the T4I / 650D and they have a video specific kit that includes some len
