Ok guys i think we're set to do a run of some cgs/serge panels.
These are the panels you can order.
The Bog - The voice panel. (BOG = Bringer of Groove)
The Swamp - The sequencer panel. (SWAMP = Sequencer With Aribrary Manipulated Pulses)
The Marsh - The bizarre panel. (MARSH = Mutilated Active Research System Hold)
You can order any panel you like.
I can get some discount this time.
1 panel = 75 euro shipped
Each extra orderd panel you'll get for 70 euro.
Please use the order form in an email to my email adress which is also the adress to paypal to (modular@gmail.comremovesomecrap)
BTW if someone wants the first or second vco panel if possible add it in the order form. If i get enough interest i can do those to. But i might contact you before ordening to get the new design instead.

I'm ordering [1] pieces of the CGS/SERGE xxx Panel
for EUR xx shipped worldwide
I'm aware that I may have to pay additional amounts of customs and tax in my country.
I'm also aware that I'm only buying screened and drilled panel that may help me building an
electronic module - I'm *not* buying a diy kit, not a "project" - just a screened/drilled panel.
I know how to build electronic circuits and I am trained in electrical safety matters.
The seller of these panels will not be held responsible for any damage that results
from these panels, directly or indirectly.
My shipping address is
xxxxxx

My PayPal address is xxx@xx.com

Ok i sorted out all orders to see what are the leftovers.
Some of them i'll keep for stuff which can go due shipping.
But stuff i can let go now are:
No spare panels avaible for now
If you order/pay for a panel i will add it to your current order if it isn't shipped yet.
If you didn't order before or your order is already shipped your name will go underneath the list and yours will be shipped as one of the last panels. _________________ WTB Buchla 100 modules

I don't know if you care, but there's a typo on this panel. 'DIVSIONS'. Thought I'd mention it in case you do care, before they get made
Some of these look really nice. If only I had the time for DIY. _________________ http://bandcamp.attacksustain.com |

He's offered PCB "sets," if you will, for a given panel. At least he did for the Voice B panel. I don't remember off hand who offered component / hardware kits though, but yea, it wasn't Ken. Oh, and it's totally not a lame question . _________________ Cheers!

Sweet! I'm ordering another bog and a marsh. Thanks Zhee and Monopoly for all your efforts.
BTW the swamp panel I got last time has the Gated Comparator IN labelled as CLOCK.
I'm not sure if that's been fixed. |

I'm probably in for 3-4 panels, expect an email from me as soon as I figure out which ones. _________________ Analogue Haven ∙ CTRL ∙ EquinoxOZ ∙ EFN ∙ Foxtone Music ∙ PostModular ∙ Schneidersbüro |

You can order whatever panel you like.
But for the vco-a or vco-b panel i need about 20 orders to make it happen.
I'd love to have the cash for all orders at the 1st of July to proceed.
if there aren't enough vco-a or vco-b orders i might ask about cancel your order or switch to the Bog panel. _________________ WTB Buchla 100 modules

Can we send in the order email if we aren't able to pay for another week or two, or do we send in the order email as we pay?
Looking at 2x bog, 1x swamp, 1x marsh.
EDIT: Wound up sending in an order for one of each.

I'm a bit disappointed at this decision, as I was really interested in a rerun of the VCO-A panel.
I like the Extended VCO and Sub Oscillator modules, as well as the additional controls on the Compact VCO, VCA and Slope Generators. The ASR is a nice bonus as well.
Is it definately a no-go on a rerun of this panel (if it even gets to the 20 orders of course)?
Regards
Magman |

Falafelbiels:
Solderingclub seems interesting.
I'd love to join to or maybe if there are to many people we could consider doing it here?
Only thing is i won't be able to do it each week on a static day due work. _________________ WTB Buchla 100 modules

I believe the mixer in The Bog is the cgs04 D.C Mixer, right?
One could maybe use the spare op-amp in the serge vcf, havnt really checked if that's possible? |

So far there's only two people attending. Also, haven't you heard I moved to a bigger place? We need more tinkerers, Casper is getting boring. We are actually actively recruiting as I write! |

Does anyone happen to have a saved mouser list or parts kit for the bog and others?
Last time I ordered parts myself for a tiny pcb I wanted to do, I ended up with 2 dozen capacitors the size of my fist. |

I'm working on a compiled BOM for each over the weekend, I can send it to anyone interested or post it here when finished. |

Just curious, will the Swamp panel's mounting hole spacing and bottom logos be changed to match the Bog and Marsh panels? What about the text for "new compact oscillator" that is cut off by the mounting hole? I'm really excited about these but get anal about such stuff. _________________ LZX Industries | http://www.lzxindustries.net |

On a Serge it is traditional to drill through the writing. We wouldn't want to mess with tradition, would we? |

How much do the more experienced wigglers here reckon it will cost to build a BOG-panel including "boat" and power supply? I really like the idea of building my own Serge-like panel, seeing as I probably won't be able to afford a genuine Serge any time soon... _________________ 0101010001101000011010010111001100100000011010010111001100100000011000 01011011100110000101101100011011110110011100101110 |

That's considerably cheaper than I would have thought! Of course I'll have to add shipping fees and customs being in Evropa . Oh well. _________________ 0101010001101000011010010111001100100000011010010111001100100000011000 01011011100110000101101100011011110110011100101110 |

Why would you? Mono-poly is in Europe as well; the PCB sets are in Australia but no shipping costs, and with the EUR/USD exchange rate it's even within the no customs range
And I'm still considering one BOG and one MARSH, seem to be an excellent couple |

The Danish customs are notoriously anal, but I guess you have a valid and (very!) compelling point! _________________ 0101010001101000011010010111001100100000011010010111001100100000011000 01011011100110000101101100011011110110011100101110 |

Is Denmark part of Schengen? If so, they can't have customs within Europe, right? |

Oh, yeah, Denmark is part of Schengen (even though we're apparently reinstating our ancient border control ). I was referring to the PCBs from Australia. _________________ 0101010001101000011010010111001100100000011010010111001100100000011000 01011011100110000101101100011011110110011100101110 |

Ireland can be just as bad. Customs here seem to pick and choose taxes as they please. I have been relativlely lucky recently but in the past I have had some nasty surprises, namely an sh101 from japan.
As far as I understand, all intenational mail in Ireland is subject to random inspection by customs and anything over a certain value is subject to import tax.
Anyway, rant over, this is a great project and I'm really looking forward to building my BOG panel. Should go nicely with my other 2 m-odules. _________________ http://boxemissions.tumblr.com/

Bog panel and pcb's paid for, can't wait. Please now close orders, I'm having a very hard time not ordering the other 2 panels and pcb sets, they look like they'd be awesome as a set of 3, ggrrr weakness.
So is anyone planning on making component set group buys? Or saving the list as a mouser order (I think you can do that on mouser).
I'm confident with the making, just not the buying. |

Tax in Denmark: 25%(vat/moms) + 3%(added vat based on type) + 22€ handlingfee
For the BOG and MARSH it could be as much as 510€ (~3800DKK) for the panels and PCBs
Damn taxes. |

Good idea, too big a task for me at the moment though. I think Todd Fletcher might be doing kits if that's any help. _________________ http://boxemissions.tumblr.com/

Panels are sent from EU so taxes are payed already. You should not pay any taxes/customs on those.
You could get most exotic parts inside EU, musikding.de or banzaimusic.com for knobs/pots/caps or make a large order (100€) via mouser so its sent as incoterms ddp and no need to worry about unexpected custom-fees.
As for pcbs from Ken, all orders Ive done have passed through without problems. I do realize I live on the other side of the 0resund and that my next order will be caught.. |

Ah, sorry, 510€ in total. Though that was what you expected to pay for vat+customs.
Seems like Ive been lucky. Only ever had to pay custom + tax on certain futurlec orders. |

the Schengen cooperation has nothing to do with import/export, its all about border control, at least thats how i am reading it. |

n00b question, but how compatible with a eurorack system would this be once built? How easy is it to go back and forth between +/- 15v and +/- 12v?
Would it be as simple as me swapping the banana's for 1/8" jacks? |

I showed up just in time! Still been kicking myself about missing the A and B panels. Sure, I cannot really "afford" these now. But I actually have a huge pile of CGS on my bench and been banging my head for panel solutions. I have all of these ready to go, except for the programmer/sequencer and diatonic converter. Since my setup is almost ready, what I really mean is that I cannot afford NOT to buy these!
So, yes, I am definitely going to buy 1x each of these panels. Going to see which bills I can slide around to make this happen without getting my finances killed.
Thank you so much for doing this!

Spent all weekend (and then some) debating... finally ordered 1x of each.
I really want to play with bananas, and I only have PCBs here and/or planned for one of these circuits (the slope detector) into a module for my 5U/MU modular.

more n00b questions, am I reading right? there's no filters in any of these panels?
Could we be seeing a filter panel in the next batch? A panel that does nothing but filter would be madness. |

 |
|
|
We've had several requests for parts kits for the new panels.
Here are prices I have put together. None of them include the panel or PCB's which you would need to purchase.
For The BOG (or either of the previous VCO Panels)
Parts are $600.00
For The Swamp
Parts are $500.00
For The Marsh
Parts are $580.00
All kits include all PCB mounted parts, panel parts, 3" boat, custom hinged mounting rails, all harware, and power cabling. Everything except the panel and PCB's.
Pictures of a recent build using same parts as supplied in the kits.
If you are interested, please PM or contact use through our website http://www.thesonicworkshop.com/
Thanks,

I don't mind my designs being built by people, who use it for a while and then sell it.
But to actually turn it into a business...

zthee, I for one greatly appreciate the time a thought that you put into these designs. Without your involvement I know that I would be much less active in sdiy. It would be nice to see your designs inspire more people to become involved in diy. Surely those for whom sdiy is simply beyond (two years ago I hadn't soldered more than a cable) may be tempted to look beyond themselves for an opportunity to enjoy your designs, and for them options like TF has offered would surely seem appealing. I would encourage those tempted to go that route to try it themselves. There is simply a greater pleasure in powering on an object you have built than one you have bought. Not to directly criticize TF too harshly, but the post does seem a bit disrespectful given the time that zthee and mono continue to put into these projects free of charge (really I'm sure at a great loss of time) simply out of a shared passion and goodness of heart.
Let me just voice that perhaps TF's post is off topic, this being the Do It YOURSELF subforum.
Thank you zthee, mono and Ken for your time, dedication and passion for this project. _________________

Zthee,
I surely didn't mean to cause a problem. I have asked for, and received, Ken's blessing to offer parts and custom builds of his designs. And while I do charge for my time and try to run things as a buisness, it's still just a hobby. I think your panel designs are beautiful and a great service to other DIYer's, and I feel that the services I offer are in the same spirit.
Thanks,

Zthee,
It's absolutely not my intention to upset anyone, so if it would please you, I will not offer custom builds based on your panel designs.

who else offers parts kits? i ask out of ignorance not stating political perspective. it would seem to me that offering kits would actually encourage more people to buy panels. i agree communication beforehand is always a great way to be sure everyone is on the same page and everything is welcome. i probably don't understand the whole issue here. if it is just parts kits and folks have to buy the pcbs and panels, than i don't see how that is stepping on toes. again this post isn't meant as inflammatory. for me, if someone didn't offer a kit, i wouldn't buy it, not because i didn't want it, but because not everybody is capable if flawlessly putting together such a complex series of circuits based on an even more complex set of boms. _________________ my bandcamp

TF, You stopping this will not benefitting the community.
And that's what's most important for me.
So just keep going.
But I do want you to know that next time you make damn sure to ask EVERYONE involved! Even the designer. _________________ Information regarding the Two Thousand Six Hundred DIY project - > http://www.thehumancomparator.net

Zthee,
I apologize for not getting your permission beforehand. I thought I was above board when I had made arrangments with Ken. It was a total oversight for me to not ask you, since you had put so much work in on your panel designs, and again the panels are beautiful.
If you Mono, Ken , or Serge are ever in Chicago It be my pleasure to take you out for a pizza.
Thanks Again,

Looks like Initial Gain to me. There is no line between it and the VC jack. |

| BTW, probably anal/inane question: I notice that the BOG VCA is shown with black (bipolar) IN/OUT jacks, while the MARSH VCA is shown with blue (unipolar) IN/OUT jacks. Is it just creative use of jack colors, since the MARSH is mostly CV processing? |

It is DC coupled so the jacks should be blue.
The unipolar/bipolar behavior is a symptom of the type of output coupling used in a module, so you can get both unipolar and bipolar signals out of blue "unipolar" jack, while the AC coupled black jacks will only give so called bipolar responses. |

Is there anyone in the UK or Europe who is offering the type of service offered by Todd Fletcher at the Sonic Workshop?
I have zero diy skills, but am interested in all of the panels, and wondered if there is anyone who could make them up for me. |

The sequencer panel are not that bad. At least not if speaking in terms of source / trimming / matching / soldering components. I'd say its the easiest one of them all.
The programmer might be intimidating though, I have yet to find out. |

If you get the programmer assembly correct, it is no problem. If you get the complex bit of the wiring backwards, there is an easy fix. If you stuff up on a PCB, it's a pain to fault find, because the fault is usually on one of the boards next to the one that appears to be not working, and access is not easy.
And for the record, I have only seen two types of fault with this:
1) rotten 470pF caps that prevented stepping. (happened once)
2) assembly error. |

because of the pcb-mounted pots, the programmer is actually on of the easier sequencer projects to build--minimizes the flying wires, plus solves the physical issue of having to mount the circuitry. go for it _________________ www.fluxmonkey.com

Yes, this is the correct address for email and payment. The reason for the obscure email address on the first page is so a spam bot doesn't pick it up since the DIY thread is public. On that note you might want to edit your post and obscure the address so Mono's address doesn't get picked up here and he get's spammed . _________________ Cheers!

I found the sequencer/programmer faster (and more fun) to build than the other boards. The board mounted pots, panel components and bus wiring make it very easy and are quite ingenious. I imagine building it the way other serge modules are built would be an absolute nightmare.
I reckon the DUSG is probably the trickiest to build. It is a very dense board and has a lot of wiring to the front panel. |

Zthee announcing he won’t be doing panels anymore made me decide to keep my “SWAMP” and I will get MARSH. I’m still on the fence about the BOG as it has a lot of overlap to the panel I just etched. So put me down for 1 MARSH and I will think a bit on the BOG… _________________ DIY panels and PCBs for Buchla and Euro format: http://synthpanels.blogspot.de/

| This might be a dumb question considering I already ordered, but these are designed to fit in a standard 19" rack are they? From what I understand they are only 16". Is that right? Anyone considered how to make it play well with a rack system? Big ears? |

They are 17" wide. Once mounted on a "boat" style box, rack ears are easily attached. |

A bit of 1"x1" aluminium angle, a hacksaw and a drill, and there you go. And they are sturdier than some of the "genuine items" I've seen on STS stuff, though maybe not as pretty. |

I can offer knob sets (50 knobs) for 65.00 shipped within the US, these are ones we get made for us and are better quality than the Small bear ones, they have a full brass insert so if you tighten it, they dont strip out. _________________

Ken, how long will the DUSG PCB be available? I am getting a BOG panel but since I am currently working on a panel that is very similar and have other projects, it will probably be a while before I get aroudn to that panel. I just don't want to buy a panel I wont be able to buy PCBs for, say in a year or whatever. _________________ DIY panels and PCBs for Buchla and Euro format: http://synthpanels.blogspot.de/

The board will be available as long as people keep ordering it, despite what the web site may say. If it is out of stock when you need it, I will simply get more made. They will sell.

I thought that particular pcb was only for sale if you bought a best of panel?
Any chance you are going to be releasing a smooth/stepped generator pcb in the future? _________________ DIY panels and PCBs for Buchla and Euro format: http://synthpanels.blogspot.de/

The DUSG originally was only available as part of the PCB set. I thought I had removed all references to that from my site.
The SSG is not likely to be released any time soon. At this stage I only have permission to release that one as a completed module, and as you know, I don't do completed modules. |

ordered and paid for the CGS PCBs for my Marsh & Bog. yep, it's a chunk of change, but Ken always has a sizable investment of boards on the shelf--the sooner he recoups some of that investment, the sooner he's able to turn around and make new goodies available to us.

can't wait.

Apart from booking my room for Synth DIY in Cambridge for next month, ordering some other (non Best of) PCB's from you, buying this MARSH Panel and the first of a few orders to Farnell this month to get ready for Cambridge, why do I feel that there is so much month left at the end of the money?

you might find 3.5mm jacks are too small for the holes, probably will have to find oversized nuts/washers to keep them in place. _________________ nonlinearcircuits

| Anyone received their group boards from CGS yet? I haven't but I'm assuming they'll ship once the CGS09 is back in stock. Pretty excited for this build! I'm going to use the BOG primarily for live gigs where I don't want to bring the big rig out. |

okay so i've never soldered a thing in my life but DIY is definitely something I want to try. I've also always wanted a Serge Panel.
What do you reckon the chances of me building one of these without messing it up bearing in mind that i'd most likely order the parts from TF and i'm a complete noob? Biting of more than I can chew?
Where the fuck do I start?! Is there going to be tech support on the forum!?!
My email order to order is all ready to go, i'm just having cold feet after staring at the all PCBs on Ken's site.
Sorry if this is off topic. _________________ http://www.soundcloud.com/bolivermusic |

@boliver: I would buy a panel or 2 since this might be the last groupbuy. Then spend quite some time learning a good soldering technique, perhaps buy some effectpedal kits and get a good feel of the craftsmanship. Also spend some time reading about the modules and such. Building it will be hard work but not super difficult if you've learned the basics. The hard part is troubleshooting if things doesn't work. You also have to take into account tools you might need like a benchsupply, DM and oscilloscope.
But I really think you should dive in! It's a great feeling to build a synth by yourself! Kinda like running a marathon. In a good way;-) _________________ FT: Buchla 12wls + case. Want 18wls |

I noticed that we only have 9 people wanting the SWAMP panel, is that something that we are going to need to get to 20 people to make an order? |

Thanks SMS303! That is my website and indeed I offer kits for European builders. Component kits including the panel mount components for all three panels. Please contact me via the website or PM or email and I will get you all information.
Oh, and Mono-Poly, money will be send today for 1 x MARSH and 1 x BOG.

For those interested I am now putting together BOCGS Component Kits. There are, currently 3 kits, one for each panel. The kits contain a full set of components to dress all the boards. They do not contain panel components (knobs, pots or jacks), these will be offered as Hardware Kits shortly.
I have attached copies of the 3 BOMs, if anyone would like to vet them and/or confirm any deviations in the BOCGS build for a module from that listed on Ken's pages, I would be greatly appreciative. |

Hadn't gotten that far down the line yet but am open to ideas. I haven't scoured the thread but is there any details on the metalwork?
while looking at the hadrware I see across the 3 panels apparently different approaches to the colour scheme. Do you people want the colour arrangement exactly as per the 3 pictures on the BOCGS page on Ken's site or is there a preference for some other colour scheme? |

What size are the led holes on these panels? The graphics suggest that they are like the old serge panels with same size for all holes and use of spacers where needed? _________________ FT: Buchla 12wls + case. Want 18wls |

They're 6.35mm. Just like the old panels. The graphics is just cause I use that on my private projects. So no need for you to buy shoulder washers... _________________ Information regarding the Two Thousand Six Hundred DIY project - > http://www.thehumancomparator.net

Makes it a bit easier but would´ve been kinda cool with shoulder washers. Thanks for the info and design zthee |
