Apologies for the crosspost - not sure if this is a DIY or a recording thing. Bit of both.

Any thoughts on this? I need to pick up sound from burning material for a project that's coming up, ideally in a live situation.

I'll make some experiments with piezo contact mics and cheap condensers this weekend, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for preventing metal elements from melting/fusing, ceramic elements from cracking and plastic elements from melting/burning!?
I dont even mind if the recording wrecks the contact mic to be honest, so long as it survives long enough to give me 5-10 mins of sound.

Also - other options? Close micing without destroying the capsule!?

A shotgun mic of some quality would be perfect for the job.

I have one of some quality and I planned on trying it out. But "some" here means "not much".

Cross-posting sucks.

Aye, apologies. I wouldn't usually crosspost but there are so many forums here and I got the impression that they're pretty independent of each other.

But then I'm a newb so if that impression is wrong I'm happy to kill one of these (if a mod doesn't beat me to it).
