he's been playing "new" tracks in his Dj sets for a long time. not always but he's dropped unreleased stuff and different versions of released songs regularly.

last year i read an interview w/the guy from warp saying he was trying to get another record from aphex.. he phrased it in a way that came across as "whatever he wants to give us... if he feels like letting us release another record.. i'm trying to talk him into it..." etc.

i'm up for whatever he puts out under whatever alias. i always hope for new aphex. the Tuss was a nice surprise.

there's a bunch from that very session on youtube. some really awesome stuff in there - hoping it gets a proper release.

The Tuss. If that's not him, I'll eat my hat.

+ 1 on The Tuss.

Some of the tracks were even named after synths like the Analord stuff from the same time period.

...and it's dope.

there's a ton of Tuss stuff spread all over Myspace. Look for the The Tuss and then his 'friends'.

I actually enjoyed the Tuss material more than the Analord stuff (although it is good too).

i haven't heard shit.. but i've heard from other people who've heard and he's said that whenever he plays live he always bills it as a "Dj set" so that people will dance instead of standing around looking at him.

anyway - i think all these guys play unreleased stuff in their sets. I heard mike paradinas at the 1st coachella and he played a bunch of stuff (old and new) that was altered or foreign to my ears. those autechre 12 hour dj sets are full of all kinds of weirdness that has to be material they or friends have made but never released anywhere.. it just reeks of skam/gescom type stuff.

i just find it hard to imagine that anyone like aphex is gonna play a set that is made up of released tracks only. there is a video on youtube some place where its him behind a computer (old video) and he's playing like hardcore techno aphex style.. and then there are his sets from the 90's of various audio quality that are on WATMM for download and those sets have handfuls of songs or snippets of songs that are nowhere on any release i've heard. the guy has oodles of tracks he's never released.

also, "the Tuss" is richard james. not afx/aphex but it's just a name.. the Tuss is the shit.. if you haven't heard it go get it. it rocks.

bottom line is aphex rocks! bring no the new hotness.

yeah man - those Metz videos are definitely awesome.

i didnt love the tuss though. druqks is amazing. i saw alarm will sound do aphex a few years ago and that was also amazing.

most performers who are billed as DJs tend to do some type of hybrid live set, but sometimes i see people who literally hit play on a pre-recorded track. speaking of mike p, he was one. that was around the bilious paths album. that was disappointing, but Jega also played in that same show and KILLED IT. way too underrated artist.

jega didn't show. he couldn't get into the country. had no work visa or whatever. mike's set was awesome though! he played "lunar astronomy" stuff and some older shit all from an MPC 3000.. that was ALL he had. MPC3000 + a mixer. he rocked out.

that was during the peak of the IDM mailing list era and there was lot's of standing around and staring.

I LOVE jega's music. really amazing stuff. i have it all on vinyl. he lives in LA area now and does sound for film/tv etc. he plays live once in a while in so cal. i have some friends who were trying to get him up to PDX to play but that was some time ago.. all the "let's throw a party" momentum has slowed in some circles.

Much <3 for The Tuss, AFX, Aphex Twin, Gak, Analord, Bradley's Robot, etc...
Seen him "DJ" 5 or 6 times now, first time was '96. Played right before him twice. Always had a really good listen. Every time, w/o fail he drops at least one unreleased track. If you know his music well, there's no doubt that: A. This is definitely an Aphex track & B. I don't have this one. I've heard a bunch that have never seen the light of day. Wonder how many others there are? God bless the child, he taught me everything I know.

Hey Problem Child, been meaning to tell you... nice system.

Yeh, just me playing live. They printed flyers before they realized they priced the flights. High rollin' these promoters, you know? It will definitely be Phoenecia, just missing a little grit.

Interesting, I haven't heard "The Tuss" but I'll defiantely go check it out. I was pretty influenced by early James stuff (Polygon Window, I care Because You Do, Analogue Bubblebath, etc.) but I wasn't a very big fan of Druqs or Analord. I know I'm in the minority there. It just didn't really move me like his older stuff did, or even the Richard D. James albumn did. I'll check out his new stuff, I'm sure it's worth a listen.

Is it me, or I've never heard anything that sounded this way from him. I mean, this is emotional stuff, sounding not harsh but clean (sort of). I'm a big fan and hardcore listener of his stuff, and this video is amazing, inspiring, profound, I'm amazed. I didnt thought he was able of such... perfection applause

It's you...
Don't get me started, but IMO, he makes the meanest & most beautiful music of anyone since Beethoven. He has lots of songs that pluck the heart strings.

i have to agree. over the years aphex has made all kinds of pretty stuff and gritty stuff and everything in between.

my guess is if it sounds a certain way that doesn't say "aphex" it's because it was recorded on a crappy little camera mic.

to me it just sounds like aphex twin.

I caught my 12 year old sister listening to Polygon Window the other day. I swear I had nothing to do with it SlayerBadger!

I thought SAWI was the best thing he ever did, follwed closely by the Analord series. The past few days I've been trying again to get into SAWII, ICBYD, RDJA and Druqs. I like them, I just can't love them hmmm.....
