that's why I like my Movado Museum. Ultra thin, stylish...........and instantly recognizable when you "check the time" to show it off. _________________ www.deletethepresets.com |

Wow, watchfans on this forum?
Quite a watchfanatic myself, or at least I used to be, lacking the cash for it these days and quite happy with the watches I currently own (although I really do "need" to get a blue Tag Monaco and I would really really like a IWC ingenieur in steel).
I am currently wearing a Omega Speedy pro (good to see there's more of those around ). When I'm on business travels I mostly have my Breitling Aerospace, since that's insanely accurate.
I have some other older omega's, longines, but I hardly ever wear vintage stuff. As a beater watches, there are a Davosa Submariner lookalike and a Suunto Core on a orange strap. |

My father repaired mechanical watches as a sideline when I was a child so I've always been fascinated.
Some of my collection, many have display backs but are not in my web space at all.
(This Roland Murphy 222 is a cased early 1940s pocketwatch movement).
The MIH watch in the center is kind of an interesting piece.

In brief, MIH is a museum - Museum International of Horology, and the curator is a old Ulysse Nardin designer who made some of their more complicated watches. As the museum curator he has no connections to any specific brands anymore.
They have a fairly old, very complicated American clock they are restoring. To pay for the restoration, the curator designed this watch. It's an annual calendar and chronograph, and an extremely unique design. Annual calendars mechanically know the difference between 30 and 31 day months, but are manually advanced by the owner at the end of Feb. The chrono is a single button chronograph and the minutes are displayed on the back of the watch.
He then set out and asked various skilled watchmakers (including Paul Gerber, one of my favorites) to assist with the build of the watches. They are done as time permits by some very skilled people.
Then they are sold directly by the Museum to help fund the clock restoration project.
The watch is not branded, it only contains the MIH letters at the 9 o'clock marker. The watch is themed heavily off the number nine, as the annual calendar mechanism runs off just 9 parts (which for every other annual calendar is at least 20+)
I waited 16 months for mine and it supported a very worthy effort iMO. |

some beautiful watches
I used to subcontract in Seiko Japan from about 03-07.
The mechanical watch dept hated the digital guys and vice-versa. Constant rivalry over whose products used the least power and were the most accurate.
The vibes of the two groups were very different, mechanical were relatively bohemian, even one member was openly gay, which is virtually taboo in corporate japan. The digital group were strictly led by a control freak wanker...... he didn't like me at all.
they go to incredible lengths with their designs, spend months to get a spring the right shape and tension.
There is a good watch museum in the base of their Makuhari office (near Tokyo) worth a look if you are into watches. _________________ nonlinearcircuits

I think you're on to something here...
Although I own a few quartz watches that I think are cool, most of my timepieces are mechanical, namely:
Limes (Nightflight & Pharos)
Eterna (Pulsometer)
Omega (Vintage Seamaster)
Dolphin (24 Hour [Russian])
Breitling (B2)
Temption (GM2)
Accutron (Mechanical Diver [kind of an oxymoron])
Seiko (Orange Monster)
Olech & Wajs (Chronotime)
Zodiac (Astrographic)
I can post pics if anyone is interested. Check out the poor man's watch forum if you haven't all ready done so.
Later,

New addition, I finally fulfilled the desire for a 300m tuna.
Not a mechanical, but the 7c46 is not your typical quartz movement.

Well, I am a professional watchmaker so I guess you could say I'm "into" them. I mostly don't spend any money on them since I work on them all day long, I guess I get my fix there! I do have a small collection of vintage Chronograph movements with no cases (the movement being the interesting part!) and I am selling my Serge to start building clock movements (and cases if I have to)
You guys do have nice collections. Can I take them apart?

After looking at it for about 3 seconds (and without being able to see the small seconds hand) I'm sorry to tell you I'm quite certain it's a fake.
I don't mean to insult your jeweler friend but there are numerous issues with the dial and I'm not even much of a Panerai buFf. _________________ "I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down." |

I should point out that it IS a very good fake and would fool 99.9% of the population quite easily (if that's what you're aiming for anyway)
A real WIS who knows what to look for is very rare out in the real world. _________________ "I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down." |
