Guy's

Has anyone a list of the standard distances between jack, pots etc on a serge panel?

Cheers,

Barry

*I assume this thread would be a suitable place to ask.

I believe the spacing on Serge panels is 1" horizontally and vertically. I'm not sure though.

Widht on serge panels are 1" and height spacing either 1" or 3/4 depending on module/function. with 3/4" you get 8 knobs vertically and with 1" you get 6.

Another pseudo M-class panel to check before sending it for manufacturing : Quad VCA/mixer from L-1 & CGS DUSG

holes are banana 8mm, pot 7mm, switch 6.5mm, lens 6.35 mm
the four level pot will have bigger knob, 19mm davies 1910CS
other are classic 13mm 1900 clones

Yes. There are pictures of some here - I'm not sure where though - maybe a well constructed advanced search would find them.

I ordered one a while back, and they called me and told me to change it because what I was looking for wouldn't work well with the process. So I just sent in another trial panel order, this time a very simple panel, just to see how it looks.

Ok, I'm getting ready to send this off now.

Here is the unpopulated panel,
Pot holes are 7mm,
jack/swithces holes are 6mm,
the 4 screw holes for the spacers are 3mm (M3 screws),
The Leds(The 3 holes below the Mode Pot) are 4,3mm and are using led lenses. Is 4,3mm is too tight for this?
The lines are 0,4mm

And here is a mockup with panel components in place.

What is it?
It is a wavetable osc with several differenc cross modulation modes.
it sounds like this:

I don't see any obvious errors. The only thing that kind of bugged me is the "e" in the word "Wave" appears a touch close to the line. Not sure if it's a problem, though.

Ah, Yes i might move both Wave and Table outwards a little bit.
I 'm actually more worried about the Coarse text with a line between the letters wink

'Fine' starts with a lower case F - Coarse with uppercase.
Did you intend to mix cases like this? It seems like it might be better to stick with one pattern...

Line through "Coarse"...huh, didn't even notice that! If you're having these done by FPE, then I think the engraving would work, however the line has an in-fill and the text doesn't (or is a white)...in which case you're asking for trouble there.

"Fine" with a small "f"...again, hadn't noticed, but I agree w/Mongo1. It appears that the rest of the controls on the outside of the lines start with caps, while the controls inside the lines are small. So if you follow that format, "fine" should start with a cap "F".

Personally I get around that problem by doing all text in caps. One fewer thing to worry about! screaming goo yo

Yes, I'd settle on a capitalization theme of some kind. Me, I capitalize everything. No capitalization is fine too.

The other little thing that's bugging me is that the little yellow lines that "cross" under other lines don't have a well thought out look - it's kind of haphazard where they end and restart. You only have 4 of those - I'd spend the time to get them looking uniform.

Thanks for the feedback.
The reason i mixed cases like this was actually because how I originally placed the labels and the upper cases got in the way of the lines.
I'll update the layout with some more consequent casing.

About the lines, one gap is indeed smaller than the other three, I never thought about it looking odd, now I cant let it go either so that will change as well. I'll stop the line in the last led as well.

Sounds like I should change my fill in color to be the same for both the lines and the text though.

As this is my first FPE panel I was expecting some issues like this, will return with a updated version soon.
Thanks

FPE's pretty cool, I think. Feels a bit kludgey at first but I picked it up fairly quickly.

Still, like a lot of things, the deeper you get into it, the more you realize that there are a lot of things to constantly keep in mind. Learn all the copy/mirror/align (Shift-A is your friend!) stuff and it makes life a whole lot easier.

One thing I'd suggest - move the jacks connected to the 'pmod' in toward the center. That will let you eliminate a bunch of crossovers and clean the panel up quite a bit.

Ok, cleaned up the panel and tried it in anodized alu look.

I like the layout of the ins and outs so the lines are staying.
The "MOD" text are a bit out of line, but that is because I need to put the standoff screws there.

I want to 5U-ize all my SynthTech E series modules, thought I'd run them by you first.

For the E340 & E350, to keep all the input scaling pots I decided to go with a 10-turn vernier instead of the Coarse/Fine pots. A little more expensive, but I'd rather have the FM scaling on the panel.

E350. Inspired by Dave Brown. Not real happy with the Phase legends on the pots being over and the ones on the jacks being under, but I liked the alternative even less. Also unhappy with how crowded the switches are, but I couldn't see this being a 3U module.
