Too bad he subscribes to Top 40 power-pop sensibilities and sounds no different than Rihanna or Pink to me...
Too commercial .. today's equal to... Oliver Adams? |

How can you not like skrillex? he's the most creative EBM frontman ever.
I love how he's trying to distance himself from the Brostep label asmuch as possible and creating his own Genre/Scene by dropping "Base music" in every interview.
Like Rusco ses, noisy for noisy's sake;

This interview actually puts him in a better light for me. I stopped Skrill-hating a while ago. He does what he wants. If the masses like what he does it's not his fault. Blame it on the masses.
The term "Bass Music" has been around waaaaaay longer than Skrillex. I heard FlyLo use it in an interview years ago and he probably heard it somewhere else.
I WILL say that what Skrillex calls dubstep I do not.
And he is a TINY human being. Child-sized. But aside from that, I can't waste my time hating his music. I just hate the people who ask if my music sounds like his when I say I'm an electronic musician _________________ https://vintage82.wordpress.com/

Bass music is already a 4-5 years old term in Europe... It s so weird to call Skrillex" music like that when you consider UK dubstep was (and a part is still) more dealing with sub wobbles...
I ll try to find back a Dubstep review i read some monthes ago : when dubstep started to get bigger and bigger for the kids, some producers just wanted to make the music easy to get with in ear headphones and laptop speakers .. The solution was to bring this sub wobble to the middle range... i mean those very agressive wobbles...
About Aphex Twin, i remember a pic of the Skrillex Facebook page wer ehe just post Flim for Aphex... All comments were like "That track sucks... there s no drop..." _________________ www.soundcloud.com/bishop-dust |

Yep. And from my perspective, that term was a way for fans and artists to distance themselves from the term "dubstep" when it started to go to shit. Ultimately, "bass music" is probably more accurate, as very little dubstep as it currently exists has any connection to dub or 2-step whatsoever.
Anyway, I guess it's time to go back to the genre dartboard and come up with something new for the kids to be condescending about.

To be fair, that picture was shopped to show only the most idiotic, drop-hungry responses. It still gave me an uncontrollable urge to punch when I saw it.
I'm conflicted about Skrillex, in that I have no use for his music, I've never understood why people insist on calling it dubstep when it's clearly electro viewed through a chainsaw bass tinted lens, I've been consistently frustrated in my attempts to communicate with his fans about anything music related (including my best friend; I spent an hour with him a few months back attempting to convince him that he shouldn't call Skrillex et al "dub," played him a few King Tubby and Lee Perry records as supporting material, and it still wasn't until a text message a few days later that it became clear to me he got the point)—but by all accounts Sonny's a fucking nice guy. If I were to meet him, I'm still not sure whether or not I'd lie to him about how I felt about his work to spare his feelings. |
