I'm old and I used at one time to be "with it", but then I think they changed what "it" meant. Anyway, I have a sneaking suspicion Wolves in the Throne Room has been kinda hyped for some time, although I just found out about them by chance via Facebook.

But they're completely awesome! I love the fact that they're melodic and kind of accessible without being cheesy. And of course that they sound partly influenced by Constellation stuff as well as BM.

I'm not that into rock music these days, but the stuff that Southern Lord put out usually tickles me in the exact right spots.

I'm with you with Southern Lord putting out great bands, same with Hydra Head. You might want to check out the unfortunately named "Twilight - Monument to Time End" album made up of U.S. based Black metal musicians.

yes, they are fantastic. I've been keeping an eye on the southern lord website, waiting for them to come play in LA. I really like two hunters. I also have Black Cascade which is also good.

I'd also recommend reading interviews with them. They are very interesting and righteous people.

Saw them last night here in Stockholm. Bought a friggin' band t-shirt for the first time in like 15 years, that's how good it was. And no bass player, just two guitarists and a drummer and lots of FX (Strymon Blue Sky and several Malekko stomp boxes among them).

wittr are really good. The sound still could be a little more lo-fi and muddy. I like my black metal soaked in noise and tape hiss SlayerBadger!

Great band!!! Was bummed to miss them play here in Dublin the other week. Didn't realise they had no bass player. Very cvlt SlayerBadger!

So much good black metal out there at the moment. My favourite USBM has to be Xasthur. I just love the moods to his records and the vocals sound more like white noise than screeches. Really atmospheric and dissonant. Can't get enough of it. The last couple of albums were a little disappointing so I can see why he called it quits, but he's left a pretty decent back catalogue of stuff there to check out.

Weakling are completely unlike WITTR (which is a good thing) and far, far better. So apart from being USBM, I'm not sure what comparison you are trying to make.

Someone into WITTR would be more likely to be interested in something like Petrychor I would imagine.

Wolves in the Throne Room are fucking epic. Live, recorded...all around an amazing beacon of hope for American Black Metal.

Might I suggest a band from my part of the country...Deafhaven.
