Nice score on the Yamaha. It looks brand new. Amazing. Congrats.
A couple of your Euro patches blew me away on the youtube, esp. Texture Anomolies at 7:20 ish. Is it a TipTop digital effects module gated for the delay type sounds? Really cool.
Of course the Modcan is awesome too. |

Love the Mellow video (and the rest)
Am thinking of getting a small rack of Modcan A to go with my Fenix II/III (when I budget for it though, it does make me realize just what a bargain the Fenix is!)

hope the soldering is going well! it is weird figuring it out but simple stuff is, well , simple.
unrelatedly, i think i just snagged a 48db filter and i am wondering how it will pair up in my system. i recently got a twrlpg and an oakley journeyman as well. and of course i have the arp filter and the dual multimode.
talk to me. _________________ my bandcamp

yeah i started a little thread about my thingamagoop2 RGB build in the DIY forum.
and now i've finished soldering and assembling a xoxbox - but the sequencer is a bit batty...maybe because i need to load the firmware first. it didn't come with the user manual so i haven't given that a look yet...it does make sound and all the synth circuit seems to work; just the sequencer and keyboard only seem to 'play' the same single note right now. ahhhh projects!
anyway, re: 48 dBLPF
it's a very 'composed' and proper sculpting filter, yet also very versatile - can be rather wet and juicy like an SSM2040 in 18 or 24 dB, or the deep round and thick moog-y in 24 dB on up, or more open and bright in the 6 or 12 dB modes.,...except that it's not at all like a ms20, synthacon or whathave-you. there's no 'screaming-throaty rage' as it gathers into self-osc; it just oscillates at the top 5% of the range in a pretty clean, LOUD sine.
it's core is a mystery to me - diode or transistor i don't know. don't really care either _________________ youtube.com/shaft9000 ◄ modcan+euro demo:study

so is it even cleaner than the dual multi?
and i wanted to share, i recently dropped my two 64 complex egs and went back on a full slope reliance plus (tfg) an 04 vc-dadsr. holy shit is that serge clone awesome! vc on EVERYTHING. i guess i shouldn't be so jazzed but it just feels immediately better than the digital egs i have been used to for so long. who knows where i will stick with egs but this one feels like a keeper. _________________ my bandcamp

mind you you're talking to a guy that has never touched the dual multi!
but unless the dual multi is something really unusual, i've never heard a multimode filter that can pump out deep bass like the 48dB can.
it can be driven but doesn't go bonkers at all - there's more of a warm wooly valve-ish thickness to it, rather than anything resembling a fuzz(like sem) or banshee from hell(ms20) _________________ youtube.com/shaft9000 ◄ modcan+euro demo:study

and i'm almost ready for another order like i said i wouldn't
i have to get a dual lfo(or two) and trying to decide between flanger or analogFS....
and i want to try the midiCV, although i am looking at anything that is convertible to nanners for this duty. i'd like to try the kilpatrick 1600 and/or build the CGS 8-trigger MIDI job.
i was going to hold out for an encore expressionist but they are so damned rare and never come up it seems. _________________ youtube.com/shaft9000 ◄ modcan+euro demo:study

do you have space for the dual fs and the analog? i could never justify both those, and i love the digi dual so damn much.
some would probably disagree with me but i get so much more flexibility out of the digi delays even when it comes to flanging. they are golden...enough to justify two for me...really happily. i often patch one delay as flanger/freak and the other as the next as most sexual real delay ever. they should come in pairs. _________________ my bandcamp

I have a dual multi. I'd love to hear more clips of the 48dB filter. What I've heard so far always seems just kind of straight and polite. I too wonder how different it is sonically from the regular multimode (dual or otherwise), besides the steeper slope. If it's possible to post some really straight forward clips, it would be very much appreciated! _________________ I, Parasite | Synth fuckery on Soundcloud

well i guess i could do an 8th note bassline or what do you mean? ...like some clinical vco->filter in a non-musical scientific nutritional-analysis kind of deal?
but i digress... who needs clips!?!
what part of LA do you live in...swing by; i'd be happy to host a little try-out session or even swap filters for a week. PM me if you're up for it. _________________ youtube.com/shaft9000 ◄ modcan+euro demo:study

I'm in Studio City most of the time - we're not that far. We could do a filter comparison. I'll PM! _________________ I, Parasite | Synth fuckery on Soundcloud

I currently have only a few filters in my system. I have the dual multi, CEM lowpass, and the 904a "clone." The CEM is my go to bass filter...I actually like the sound a lot regardless of it being CEM based. The analog FS in A series has one major drawback...it does not have feedback ins and outs; you have to patch this with an external mixer and an inverter. However, it sounds real nice (an Irwin design of course). I haven't heard the dual FS in person, but it seems like a more versatile module. I really should have spent more time with dude's system at the Toronto meet; however, he had just popped in a touch sequencer and that absolutely demanded full attention! In my discussions with Bruce, he said that the only reason anyone should pick the analog over the dual FS is if they want a better higher frequency response or are an analog purist. Personally, I like any A series module with larger knobs. I think with the density of my system, it might make sense for me to replace it with the dual at some point. I am still in the head over heels honeymoon period with my digital Quad LFO...that is now a cold dead hands module.
So, I guess I have to keep biding my time, waiting for Deadmau5's megasystem to be completed, so that I can receive my Scanner and fill the final gap in my case. Sigh. I wish there were more videos demonstrating the audio applications of the scanner. JLR and dude have a few nice ones which will suffice for now! |
