Great first post and very helpful! Bookmarked & thx!
Here is what I have come up so far - still waiting for the jacks from Banzai. I decided again tearing apart the mult and instead added it to the box. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

@eef: That is a good tip! I promise not to play fake guitar on it!
In the meantime, I made this as a guide for remembering settings. I'll make another for the cables in the planner.

Met up with the director, went very well. She wants more Metasonix squeals and unsequenced basslines. More then fine with me! _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

Patch-sheets?! Call yourself a Wiggler?
If she wants more squeals, you could look at getting a matrix mixer. I've had a lot of fun with the VCAM, A-199, A-112, FSH-1 and an R54. Gets pretty mad, but can be tamed for subtle. _________________ http://navsmodularlab.blogspot.com/

@Navs: Thanks for the tip, but I'll try not buy any more modules in the near future, as tempting as it always is. However, the Matrix Mixer has always intrigued me and I know I need an FSH-1 after listening to your demos. So my future 6U suitcase is getting filled already!
@transistor logic: damn, sorry to hear that! When starting out, I had similar assignments - remixing waltzes, playing bell and cow samples, boring stuff. Even with that particular director I started out covering songs. I never liked doing covers so I tried to find a way to do it that interested me - like using AT&T speech synthesizers for a duet version of "My Way". In the next play I covered about a dozen songs, but only the part that I could instantly remember - an idea I got from the novel Coma by Alex Garland. Then I moved on to reworking Bach and writing a song to a poem by Elliot. After that, I was on stage doing silent movie type orchestral arrangements and was thrown in a trench of mud by Frankenstein's monster. From that moment on, I did not cover anything any more.
I guess what I am saying is, a relationship with a director can develop from production to production and get better, once you get to know each other. Just always offer an unexpected vision, so you don't get too bogged down in assignments. Have fun! _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

its not that bad. i am enjoying working with the director . i just wish we would make the play more weird.
its my first theatre experience . i guess when the play starts to physically exist its going to make more sense. i'm just frustrated cause i took two week to find the best grandfather clock sound and finally we went with one of the first one that i already had. i got saturated of all bell like sounds even before i had begun to work on it . but i took a two week break of it and now everything is cool and i am learning to use my daw for audio editing that will be useful in the future.
anyway back to your exiting upcoming gig , keep us updated |

I will! Just got the jacks for the switch and a big replacement tank for the A-199. Still considering a Strymon Timeline. Have to make my mind up about that tomorrow.
But generally, its useless buying new gear before a performance. Time is always limited so I resort to what I know. Every new piece of gear finds its way in a year later, when I have come to terms with it.
TL, beware of what happens once the actors start with their lines. There are no darlings, they are mass murdered. Don't get attached and always have a plan b. Be bold and be quick.
Sorry for the liturgy, its just what I would have needed to hear when starting out in theatre. It took me four plays not to get angry when a part I loved was cut. That shit happens all of the time. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

Just a quick update: first rehearsal went well, the patch I prepared feels good with the stage and the actors. I have a lot of time to optimize the sound during reharsals, which is pretty amazing. There is so much to discover with just a few patchcables, I love it! _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

Addendum: I dropped the switch, as it would only pass audio and no CV. I must have messed up somewhere. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

If you come, drop me a line and we can check stuff out! I am not at home a lot in september, as I have two plays in Wiesbaden and Hamburg, but maybe it fits. _________________ New album: "As Sparks Fly Upward" |

that would be cool . i will try to rent a place for a week in kreusberg or frederichtain ( don't know if i spelled that right ). i will defenitly go to scheider laden one or two times .
----------
you have to connect the ground on every jack ( this is a passive device so you just connect the ground of all the jacks toghter) . if you put attenuators they need ground too .
your switches should have three lugs (spdt if i remember correctly) the middle lug goes to the output jack tip and the two side lugs go to the two inputs jack tips .
take the time to analyse your components , especially the jacks, and see what lug is connected to what part of the jack . then insert a connector and observe just to make sure you understand what connects to what . |
