Regular rack strip for rails?

Author Regular rack strip for rails?

Greetings!

If I make a cabinet can I use regular rack strip as rails for my modules?
This would work out a lot more cost effective.
I am using standard panels from Bridechambers.

Anything I need to look out for?

Thanks

Steve

I had the same problem. In the UK I couldn't find rails at a reasonable price so I used 0.5 inch 3mm thick L section aluminium and drilled and tapped my own. It was rather tedious but works. They then fitted into a wooden cabinet.
Good Luck,

I will have 19" rack rails for sale in the UK and EU in the next month or so

Thanks Paul,

How much would they be?

Back to my original question, if I wanted to make a case bigger than 19" rack size could I use rack strip eg. 14U in length?

thanks

I've built a case with standard 16U rack strip as the horizontal element. I used some long angle brackets to affix them to wooden end cheeks, and attach the panels with M5 screws and cage nuts.

It's worked out fine, but the strips are quite deep. They can clash with larger pots or rotary switches at the top of the MOTM 'grid'.

Thanks Mangros

Sounds like the way to go.

Have you got any pics of how it looks?

This is a rather crap phone photo from when it was half-built, but should show how it fitted together.

And almost complete (It's got a base but no back or top... )

That looks great, I like the knobs.

That looks real nice.

Thanks for your help.

thumbs up
