So apparently I need a logic module. I have a vague idea of how they work but can someone break it down for me as if I had no clue at all...btw, I have no clue at all
I figure it's a great way to create variations using a set of rules yeah?
I'm specifically looking at the Plog so any guidance on this module would also be ace.
Cheers! |

| I understand the logic itself (I'm a computer programmer so I better), but what I need help understanding is the musical application of logic modules. Anyone care to take a crack at that? What patches do you use these modules in, and in what roles? |

Well, the Plog is a great generator of clocks.
Using its several inputs you can get all kinds of interesting clocks (I mainly use mine to trigger the X & Y inputs of a René).
The different logical functions can be modulated, and that's where the fun really starts. A great way to get quite random yet quantized clocks.
But there are many other uses for it of course, the Flipflop works great with a comparator or for resetting trigger sequencers, Pressure Points direction, etc. _________________ http://soundcloud.com/bodo

Thanks for the info...
Got some reading to do. But yes, was also interested in patch ideas for the Plog. I've seen the one in the Plog manual - anyone care to throw up some more?
According to Booleen Hair Logic I am most like an OR output..more of a goatee tho...longer hair on top too! |

thanks for the ego-queef
i didn't create or even host that handy lil' graphic, though. merely passing it on.
a wiser man than i created that gem, and i'm a fool for forgetting who gets proper credit!

one way to think of it for musical purposes is, say as rhythm generator - a common use of logic. you feed it gates, the output can resemble 'random'...or as random that has some variability based in input selection. whatever it outputs is ordered according to how the logic selects it, and that's that. WHAT you feed it determines it's behavior. it really comes into it's own when teamed with dividers and mixers/busses for "juggling the signals musically", so to speak.
but that's just rhythm/lfo modulation...there also many apps for logic involving audio-rate as well, but i've hardly explored them enough to say what they are good for _________________ youtube.com/shaft9000 ◄ modcan+euro demo:study

I got one as an audio processor. Logicing waveforms produces some strange results. The typical detuned oscillators aren't that useful but push their tuning apart more and you can get more interesting results.
You can use the toggle outputs to generate sub octaves. You can then use one of these as a modulator for the original waveform in a different module. _________________ --

You could use it for less esoteric stuff like, if A or B is playing then do not play C.
That is: C = (NOT(A OR B)) AND CLK (if A and/or b are driven by this clock)
brackets mean that the function inside the brackets is performed before the one outside, so start with A OR B, then invert it using NOT gate, then AND it with a clock.
Also a lot of fun can be had with comparators, cv and logic _________________ http://www.veqtor.se |
