A MODULAR MECCA: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
A recent entry from my brother's blog!
http://thissecondsleep.blogspot.com/
Well, not so strangely enough, Williamsburg is quickly becoming a destination for those who want a hands-on experience when shopping for modular gear, especially Eurorack modules. For those of us who have wandered Williamsburg's littered streets for many years, MAIN DRAG MUSIC is an institution unto itself, providing friendly service and a great selection of new and vintage gear (check out the recently arrived Moog Modular). Now that they've taken the modular plunge (TipTop, Malekko, Doepfer, etc.), my visits should be even more frequent (I dropped off a mint EDP Wasp yesterday on consignment). A short walk from there, in a funky mall space resides ME ME ANTENNA, a potpourri of bric a brac, modern design, gifts, and Eurorack modules. Their selection is good and growing, and the staff is very friendly... check them out in personal and online. The last and possibly best synth spot may just be C_T_R_L_, which will open in June. It promises to be a great walk-in experience. Check them out on Twitter for now. Finally, with these three outlets, modular synthesis will finally meet the feet on the street.

It's "Meme" Antenna.
Nice ad spots though. _________________ Kent: Putting the 'ass' in "World Class"

I wonder how their prices are compared to analoghaven. I would love to head there to grab a few things if the price was decent, even a hair lower than online. _________________ matthewmelnick.com

Working on it! Expect quite a bit of new / expanded inventory come July...
Also really stoked to stock a rack of certain modules in the color of yellow

We will try to be offer the best prices possible - but I have no desire to try to undercut anyone on individual modules (with the exception of shipping if you walk in) - will however try to do some package deals / monthly specials!
We are already a pretty hands on shop in terms of being able to sit down with whatever you want - our modular section is no exception! I'm just excited to be able to give Wigglers a change to wiggle before they buy.

I remember being a bit disappointed by the music instruments stores in Williamsburg when I last visited 6 years ago... damn it I need to go back now!
I don't think I'll have a problem persuading my wife to go on a trip to New York again _________________ Thonk - Modular Synth DIY

None of what I wrote in my blog should be considered advertising, although it may benefit all three stores. I only meant to shine a light on what seems like a more than reasonable attempt to meet the needs of the "modular synth" community in a brick and mortar manner. I applaud all three for taking a chance in a hostile business climate, and for doing so in one of my favorite places, Brooklyn. Long may they prosper.

D*mmit John, you've already got 5 of the 6 modules I just ordered with you in mind!
Let me know how you like the TipTop HH - I kinda feel like a fool with a bunch of HH and Snare modules but no BD (backordered).

are you sure that address is correct for CONTROL? google maps tells me that address is way on the other side of broadway in hasidic williamsburg. wouldn't it be nice it if were near metropolitan (IE my house!)?
EDIT: I looked at another forum and it isn't 46 Lorimer, it's 416 Lorimer between Ten Eyck and Stagg! |

The hasidic are actually a huge underground family of synthesis fanatics. It's just that they tend to avoid the Internet. _________________ www.joylessrapture.tumblr.com |

It's actually MeMe (pronounced "Me-Me") Antenna.
They answer the phone with that and I asked in there the other day |

Oops... typo... C-O-N-T-R-O-L will reside at 416 Lorimer St. Hopefully opening soon. As Cabaret Voltaire would say "Obsession... Obsession... "

Ahhh, thinsg have changed a lot ! I spent 2 times 2 weeks in Brooklyn (Broadway) ,last time in August 11. Back then it was a modular desert. I checked Meme, but seeing the prices for MFB desktop stuff didn't make me feel i'm in the right place. Ended up taking a 2 hour train ride down to NJ, to spend a fabulous beer and modular day with Wade.
Moduels were ordered from AH and waited for me in NY. Seems next time i can try before i buy A lot of modules have become available in the meantime in Eu, but still US of A seems to be the best place for module junks like me
Cheers,
BJ |
