for reference, here are the mixer-specific modules I have gathered up so far (granting I haven't forgotten any):
addac802 vc audio mixer
blue lantern the mix
circuit abbey unify
doepfer a138a,b,c (linear, log, polar)
fonitronik mh01
hinton switchmix
lowgain submix
stg .mix
manhattan analog mix
synovatron CVTools
harvestman qotile ultimatum
intellijel unity
intellijel mutamix
Cwejman MX-4S
Pittsburgh Modular audiomixer attenuator
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------
These are all the mixers that I gathered up...out of all of these I am definitely leaning towards the addac mixer because of its CV inputs which I could then use a panner on my total mix out from the addac and that would be a lot more money saved (and 1 extra input!) than getting a Cwejman MX-4S for the same effect. Does anyone want to provide their 2cents in this? I am also wondering if I could achieve what I am talking about with a lowgain shortbus and 2 manhattan analog mix's? I would like to achieve end-mixing to the highest quality possible or at least as close as I can get to the MX-4S without having to break my bank.
If you've read this far....cheers!
Hi everyone
I've been on the hunt for a great end mixer module for a while and have gone through a bit of modules already. I've used the Doepfer 138b, Mutagen, CVTools, Pittsburgh Mixer, and even the HexVCA as a mixer but they've all made me wince for various reasons.
Lately I've been looking into getting my hands on the MX-4S because of its VC-Panning and stereo output, and the fact that it has the best signal-to-noise ratio on the market. I wanted the Mutamix but the panning and audible mute clicks have made me lean towards the quality of the MX-4S.
Is there any other mixer on the market (or module combinations to make a mixer) that would compare with the MX-4S in quality? I know since its Cwejman and the fact that I've A-B tested them with other mixers like the Mutagen and Pittsburgh, that the MX-4S is the best sounding in quality bar none...but since they've been out of stock everywhere and are very pricey too, I could settle for the next best-sounding mixer and use the leftover money for more modules.
Any suggestions? Or opinions? Is the Mutamix awesome enough in functionality and sound quality that I should ignore the clicks altogether?

It's only mono, which I am trying to stay away from so that I can do panning modulations and not have phasing issues with two mono signals (or is that wrong to think like that?) |

I know the submit probably would be your best bet but I haven't had any experience with them. |

there's no VC-panning on this :( if I put this thru an azimuth, would that suffice? Anyone have any opinions on its quality? |

This ^
If you've already tested it against other comparable setups and you know that's what you like, then get it. No sense in wasting time/money if you already know exactly what you need or want. |

The low-gain mixer is pretty good. It is a bit noisy from my experience. It's a great utility mixer tho. |

| The Azimuth? SOunds very clean to my ears. Has panning and other great tricks/functions. It is a small footprint too (so small I cannot read the smallest print w/ out an eye glass). |

what kinda noise you get from yours? haven't had any real noticeable issues over here. _________________ my bands: THINGS OUTSIDE THE SKIN / Tongue Muzzle / The Qualia / Controlled Bleeding / the label: Facility Records / community: DarkSonus / my site: Chvad

| weird...so I'm just perusing through modularsquare.com and after ringing up an MX-4S, it comes out to way cheaper (around $150) than AH or BCM to ship across seas to California.... |

You want weird? Make Noise is generally cheaper in the U.S.--including shipping--from Schneidersladen or Modular Square. The difference gets larger if you live in California.
I find that rather hard to explain since Make Noise is a U.S.-based maker. _________________ Morale Kommisar at The Eurorack Database: http://eurorackdb.com
