cats out of the bag now huh grin

anyway you may notice this was originally ment as a sneak preview, but since it was already leaked on another forum its fair game now.

Panels will be aluminium, same style as the drumdokta, pricing will be announced as soon as i've done all the ordering and spreadsheets etc.

Hoping to get this rolling out the door in the very near future, proper pics and a blgo post will come once the test panels arrive.

On a more serious note, will there be an expansion? Like CV control over overdrive and resonance?

In hindsight I don't think it would be an issue now that the modules are bolted to the panel rather than hanging on the jack.

If anyone wants the blue panels in the same style as the osc303 qu.one is the man to talk to as he made the original ones.

You could either get your vcf303 sans panel and buy a blue one from qu.one and fit yourself or get it shipped to me and I will gladly fit it for you.

Just let me know what you want to do when you reach the top of the list.

No news on this yet as its still all in my head at the moment, soon as I get some downtime I'll start prototyping it.

Really want one.

Can I still buy an osc303 or should I wait for the mkII? Anybody has the link to that?

Edit: just saw the comment about maybe there is no thread.

Also, are you going to do a sequencer at some point? Would be awesome.

thats the most it will do with volume and overdrive at max, the output is fixed so the volume knob is really just an attenuator, this way you can just turn that down if you have overdrive maxed and not worry about clipping stuff behind it in the signal chain.

Hi,

I would like to be in the list, but first I wanted to know how much it will be costing, cause it might make me give up if it's too expensive.

OK Paul, I've watched the demo video twice, and I still don't think I understood how the accent is going to work on this. My understanding of the TB-303 accent was that accent was applied when there was a "gate high" in the sequence. I see you patching out to a VCA, mentioning that the VCA has to have two CV inputs (which most VCAs don't) and then tweaking away. I confess, you lost me there!! Could you briefly explain in layman's terms how the accent will work on this?

ok as simply as possible hihi

when accents are triggered, the envelope decay is cut short (ie the decay pot no longer works)

the accent trigger jack, isnt really a trigger more a switch control which allows this shortened envelope to enter the resonance circuit.

the accent out jack is an output for the shorterned envleope which you can use to accent a vca.

if you dont have a vca with two cv ins you could just use a mixer to mix the extra signal in

of course you dont need to use the accent out on a vca, you'll still get an accent sound but not the volume increase.

Is there an option for blue - or a silver OSC303 perhaps?

My guess is that OSC303 mkII will be silver similar to VCF and DrumDokta.

Sounds fully authentic to me. You're the first one to build something that nails the teebee accent IMHO. Also, minimum resonance brings up the ooompf as expected. Awesome.

Makes me glad I've pre-ordered two to go with my two OSC-303 :-)

Should probably edit the thread title, otherwise people might think it's a cheap knock off of the original DinSync vcf303 cool

Very cool. Mostly interested in how this sounds with non 303 oscs going through it. I love that you can FM the filter cutoff. That's killer.

Is there another way than to use a second sequencer for the accents?

edit: to get an effect like the first video.

Gates would work if they were timed to the envelope trigger

Thanks for your answer.
I see, I'll have think how I can achieve that with what I have, without buying another sequencer... for now.

Excuse a total Eurorack noob but what exactly makes a 303 oscillator so much different from a Doepfer standard oscillator? Not being provocative here - just interested in the main differences.

It's all about the tone, if you put the osc303 on a scope you'll see that while the saw looks pretty standard the square has a less than perfect shape which results in a rather unique tone.

That's actually what I suspected - that the big thing about the 303 oscillator is its imperfect square. It's actually quite interesting - when I sample oscillators for my Kontakt libraries I have noticed how dead and utterly boring "real" square waves are (just my personal opinion, naturally). The Minimoog square is way more interesting and it has a very nice sawtooth-like slope in the waveform.

quick update, still waiting on the jacks and just got this in the mail from mouser

Unfortunately we have been contacted by Mouser Product Management with the updated information that:

“WE ARE VERY SORRY OUR FREIGHT FORWARDER HAS LOST THIS SHIPMENT. THEY ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THE LOST SHIPMENT. THE NEXT SHIPMENT IS DUE 07/25/12.”

so the first batch which is almost ready (except jacks of course) is delayed, sorry about this guys, beyond my control cry

@phono1337: the output of my osc303 is way less than any of the others in my system (the direct out level is around 10dB less than the loudest oscillators I have; I haven't measured the voltage range). I'd expect that the vcf303 is optimised for the osc303 so am I going to need to attenuate other oscillators before going into it? Or will the input control take care of this? On the other hand, could this increased level augment the distortion possibilities?

its not optimised for the osc303 as such, and it works fine with other oscs, the OSC303 MKII is 10v p-p and works perfectly.

Thanks, good to know. BTW, would it be possible to mod the mkI to 10vpp? Or would I be better off just getting a mkII?

not easily since the MKII boards have been completely redone so it wouldn't be simple. However if you are going to be using it with the VCF its not a problem since there is plenty of gain on its output stage.

80% of emails for batch one have been sent, more will be sent next week as more modules are completed or people go to second chance etc.

The list is quite long so if you didn't yet get an email you may be on the second or third batch.

The price of all modules should be about the same as that of a used 303. Probably cheaper smile

OSC303 and VCF303 put through the Plague Bearer. I didn't use any VCA for the audio. Drums are by the DrumDokta.

I am afraid the start and end are a bit abrupt...

DinSync Drumdokta going in to the beautiful VCF303 with cutoff CV being modulated at audio rate by EFN/f(h)-IMP...

Sounds like a BITCRUSHER/FM/AM thingy!

LOUD and ABRASIVE (sorry)!

love it for making percussive stuff round and bouncy) and also love the env out and accent out, just routed that to a boogie too really awesome
put some lpg's at the end with mixed cv(short eg)+accent, percussion galore
now save up for a rene

mine arrived yesterday but i waslucky enough to be watching elizabeth fraser live at the time so no chance to use it yet. i suspect this evening will be as sublime as last (and probably louder!). i also think i need to get some new knobs for the osc303 to match...

here's a little photo preview - you can guess the osc303 and an autobot in the skiff on top of the rack. the vcf303 is in the black 3U rack beneath. (I am the guy "playing" the electribe.)

[sorry if too off-topic - will maybe post it again in the "play out!" subforum when I have a video.]

it's a perfect match obviously. especially if you want to use 303-style accent.

I've been tweaking my VCF303 for the past couple of days, and so far I'm really liking the sound. It has become best buds with my A-138a, which I find offers better ergonomics than the on-board controls, with the added benefit of greater control range (that ENV out sure comes in handy). It's awesome to take a pretty authentic 303 sound and then push it just beyond the typical limits of cutoff and envelope depth. I guess you couldn't exactly call it a fresh sound, but I am stoked nonetheless.

Quick update for those waiting on batch two, after some delays from the board house due to the summer holidays etc, batch two pcbs should be here soon. And of course as soon as they are assembly will begin.

They are coming ASAP thumbs up

I was going to start a new thread for this question, but it seems so basic and is specific to this module, so I’ll ask here first. I’ve got a Kenton Pro Solo II, and am looking to use the Aux 1 out to trigger the accent on the VCF303. Is there a module that can convert a velocity signal like that to a gate signal when the velocity reaches a certain level? I’m hoping this one of those sexy Jedi moves one can pull off with a Maths. cool

Thanks!

Or the m2cv from analogue solution
When the velocity pass 80 it Will send a gate on the accent socket
