due to being a complete prick of a person with no musical talent, no drummer wants to sit down and play for more than 5 minutes with me before he says 'yeah, this isnt really my kinda music.'

SO! im looking for some inspiration or ideas from bands or band type people that play using a drum machine!

so far, I know Big Black does, The Kills do, Suicide did, Walsh does, who else? flaming lips? Fine Young Cannibals?

Whos out there with a guitar and a box that makes beats?

the ravonettes, clinic, zztop (no joke, there's 808 all over the place) just to name a few. It's more common than you'd think. But in the end, just make what sounds good to you. I use a monotribe with guitar all the time to jam at my kitchen table. Works a charm.

Yeah.

Genghis Tron

Most industrial-rock/metal, in the studio anyway.

U2. Pop was recorded with drum machines while their drummer was recovering from a back operation...

dano, just scroll through yr records & if yr looking you'll hear. a ton of guitar music is out there sans drummers. most black metal is one man, a guitar, & a shitty drum machine...probably my favorite guitar/drum machine combo in recent years is benighted leams, alex kurtagic's one man bm mystic romp. it's incredible stuff, he doesn't limit how he uses the drum machine, it's totally bonkers, batshit fun & well oddly beautiful.

Jesus and Mary Chain (early recordings and their best IMHO)
Cocteau Twins

try stupid simple for rock. something like snare/rim with bass all on quarters and an 8th note hihat pattern. it isn't rock per se but has good simple genre transcending energy. at least how i hear/play/program.

Oops, I got my early goth days mixed up.
Jesus and Mary Chain did have a drummer. I remember now seeing them in '89 and there was a drummer on stage. My mistake (reason to not do drugs, kids).
thumbs up
But, I do remember a great goth band from that time period which used drum machines.
Clan of Xymox and their early stuff is the best although the most recent recording echoes the great early sound too. The recording during the mid 90's were okay, I guess.

You are correct, their earliest material including 'psychocandy' was bobby gillespie on floor tom & snare, the drum machines came in around 'darklands' if I'm not mistaken.
