Anyone in the EU with an Octatrack or an MKII Machinedrum?
I'm traveling from the US to the EU and want to take my Octatrack. I need to know the part number for the power cord (not the PSU with attached cable that plugs into the device, but the detachable cable that goes from the PSU into the wall). The Elektron power supplies are the switching type, so all I need is the power cord that will fit in an EU outlet.
On US cords the part number is stamped into the space between the wall plugs, I'd imagine it's in a similar place on EU plugs.
Elektron, in their typical evasive fashion, suggested buying the $60 World Power Kit, when all I need is a part number so I can get the same cable from China for $5. |

Its a standard figure 8 type power lead, used in lots of domestic electrical appliances, you should be able to pick one up in almost any town with an electrical/electronics store in the country you are visiting for a few euros. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/darenager

| Thanks, since there was some discussion on Elektron-Users in the past about certain cables fitting loosely into the PSU and being too easy to pull out, I'm still interested to know exactly which cable is used by Elektron. |

Ah I see, well mine are just generic ones that I picked up locally, the plug is a little longer than the ones that came with them but they fit very snugly and I have had no issues with them (mine came with euro 2 prong plugs, so I got some UK 3 prong leads to avoid using adaptors) Just checked and there is no part number on them. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/darenager

Im pretty sure those threads referred to the PSU plug being loose into the machine itself- I had one like that. _________________ Listen

Actually, I think you're right. I'll look for one of those figure-eight cables (I believe the technical name for those plugs is IEC C7) or just pick up an adapter (which I could also use for other devices). |

Yeah, that's kind of why I wanted to find a sturdy cable. Arcing is definitely something I want to avoid! I think I'll have to use an adapter for a couple of other small electronics but I just got this cable for the OT, should do the trick.
One question though (I know you guys are in the UK but maybe you know): why do some of the EU plugs have shorter tips and a slim shape (cf. http://www.samtattoo.com/upfile/proimage/20103312011254924.jpg) while the others have a bigger plug and tips that extend further (http://plugsockets.manufacturer.supplierlist.com/productsimages/europ eanpowercord_128193.jpg)? |

I think it is just due to different brands, mine have longer tips than those supplied, there is around 2mm of the figure8 part that remains unshrouded by the socket when fully inserted, but the connection is fine. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/darenager
