Hi,

I've started using my JD-800 again recently and noticed that some of the keys are either slow to trigger notes or trigger notes with the highest velocity no matter how softly I press the key. This affects only 4 keys spread out across the keyboard. I'm the only owner of the JD-800 (bought it new many years ago) and it has only been kept in a nice, temperature neutral, smoke free, pet free, environment. Never spilled anything on it. I take really good care of my gear.

I've done some internet searches and read that key contacts may just need to be cleaned.

However, when I called my local synth service center, he immediately told me that the entire keyboard array would need to be replaced at a cost of $300 - $400. hmmm..... He indicated that this was a common issue with these keyboards and it was due to some epoxy that melts on the contacts over time covering the key contacts. Has anyone ever heard of this?

When I asked if it wasn't just the contacts requiring cleaning, he said not likely, but he'll analyze it for $35 to determine if that is the case. To be honest, I now really don't trust him to do the evaluation because something tells me I'll end up with a $300-$400 bill regardless.

Anyone have experience with JD-800 keyboard issues or other 1990's Roland keyboards?

Thanks,
Mark
