My system is going will with oscillators, filters, sequencers, lfos etc but I feel I need a super module for effecting the audio.
The Oakley Discontinuity looks cool, I played with a proper Serge wave multiplier section and that was awesome
is there a module that is the end all and be all of wave shaping out there?
i just ordered a modcan dual freq shifter and their new delay (both digital)
but i think i need a very cv-able analog module that really incorporates a lot of different sections in one. |

if you're into modcan check out the phase/timbre 06. you will have a wave processing power house between those three module!!! _________________ my bandcamp

I don't know if there is an Ultimate. I have the Modcan 06B, and 2 STG Wavefolders. I also use one of my Miniwaves a lot for processing.
They all sound good in their own way.
You and Ben and I should try and get our systems together soon! _________________ WTB: Miniwave Vowels & GR-New ROMs

are you speaking to fragilo or me???
if to me, then yes yes yes. i am 100% portable again. even super installed a power supply in the case so it is perfectly self-contained. _________________ my bandcamp

I was talking to fragilo, but if you're ever heading north again, let me know. As soon as work slows down a bit, I'd like to get another meet happening. _________________ WTB: Miniwave Vowels & GR-New ROMs

I have a bunch of different wave folders, distorters, manglers, etc, but the one that I keep using because it has so much depth is the MOTM 510 wavewarper. As far as I know it's unobtanium new, but you might find a used one somewhere. Supposedly it's going to be redesigned soon, but we'll see about that. _________________ What they do is this: They leak current in proportion to the frequency of the signal. The ramifications of this can only be truly appreciated when solving nodal current balances in the Laplace domain, unfortunately.

I had good luck with the MOTM 510 as well. Sometimes the damn thing would be so frustrating though! I ended up parting with it. I go back and forth between regretting it.
I have the Oakley Discontinuity and it's very rad, especially good musical applications there..I am always on the hunt for wave processing. Must consult Dude on Modcan as I am torn between the CV recorder and the Scanner. Also interested in the Miniwave, but would wait to find a way to somehow build a 5U Megawave when the time comes. |

MOTM 510 FTW, but it takes so much time to work with.
Doomsday machine, perhaps. _________________ Brian

Yo D 4 sure man!
I know its a bitch to lug 5u kit around (fell less sorry for ben and his euro)
but my studio is the place to lay down some serious shit in a one nite stand
I've got my new label going, check out Idol Hanse
I think we can crank out a singular piece of ambient/noise/subliminal groove that would be great to release, plus I just want to celebrate life out the Hammer with my surviver homies!!!! |

Despite the name, the Doomsday Machine is rather a tame beast - it's basically just a saw animator, although there are 2 different ones in there, and more modulation options than you can shake a stick at. And they're about 100x harder to get than a 510. _________________ What they do is this: They leak current in proportion to the frequency of the signal. I have a MOTM 510 Wavewarper and a pair of S&TG Wave Folders. I love both modules but they are completely different. The 510 is a rather elaborate distortion device + ring modulator, whereas the Wave Folder is more similar in effect to the middle section of the Serge wave multiplier module, adding lots of harmonics and complexity to a sine or triangle input as you sweep it 'open'.
On the S&TG module, if you put the MIX control at about 9 o'clock and feed it a sine or triangle, you'll get an effect that is very similar to the Serge module or the "Wave Wrapper" module found in the Nord Modular. It's a really nice, clear, complex, slightly metallic harmonic sweeping effect. And I was really pleased to discover that other settings of the MIX control don't seem to just fade the effect in/out, they create all sorts of other interesting sonic variations.
The OFFSET control adds lots of additional sonic variation by adding a DC offset to the audio input, which makes the folds asymmetrical. You can also use the second input to mix a LFO or other control signal with the audio input, which effectively automates the OFFSET control.
NOTE: you may need to boost the osc signal a bit before patching it into the wave folder to maximize the sweeping effect. |

The CV Recorder does a great bit reduction effect. I think it sounds nicer than bit reduction with a Sample&Hold.
You should still be able to buy the Miniwave expander board from Hylander if you're into DIY and don't want to wait for the Megawave.

cool. Ben mentioned you were starting something up. I'm stuck working in Moose Jaw, SK at the moment, but I'll give you a ring when I get back. _________________ WTB: Miniwave Vowels & GR-New ROMs
