Oldschool Voltmeter Detail

I was *never* able to find any decent size/quality shots of this oldschool controller on the web, so here's some Wiard porn for you, a good detail shot of the meter section. Even though it says 'DC Volts' on it, it meters both - and + voltages, in opposite directions (as you may have guessed by the number scheme printed on it).

holy crap, I jsut saw this posted on the AH list:

Had a buyer that changed his mind. So offering this up again.

Wiard dual joystick w/PS. The original blueface version with built in patch bay and voltmeter $900.00 plus shipping. Pics available.

^f.

 Uh, in case anyone is interested.

Anyway, I kinda thought I had bid really high at $450 to pick mine up - this either makes me feel a lot better, or it means Frank is crazy. But good luck Frank!

No, it's a voltmeter, two joysticks, two manual gate pushbuttons, and two patchbays, and also an oldschool Wiard design that's not available anymore - it's the bottom unit in this pic:

I think $450 is pretty reasonable when you consider that the frac-format joystick modules are going on their own for $200 a piece when/if they show up on ebay these days.

$900 does seem pretty crazy outrageous to me, considering the 'newschool' 19" Wiard controller that replaced this is $650, doesn't have the patchbays, voltmeter, or fancy graphics, but it ups the ante by providing two JAGs.

But, if he can get a buyer at $900, why not? Hang onto and take care of your discontinued modules folks. They might put your kids through college one day

lol

hey muff, i've been wondering what kind of applications do you typically use your joysticks for?

not too many people talk about joysticks so i'm pretty curious.
Muff Wiggler
lots and lots of different stuff actually, i pretty much always patch a joystick or two into whatever patch I'm making

the 'usual suspect' is a filter, resonance on the joystick's X axis and frequency on the Y axis. Easier than tweaking two seperate knobs to 'ride' the filter....

also use it with the JAG all the time, using the joystick as a sort of mixer, I can take a bunch of different waveforms and 'morph' between them with the joystick, which is really fun

also using them with the JAG to create gate patterns just by moving the joystick around, came up with some cool 8008 bass drum beats this way

use them with the MiniWave a lot to pan around through banks of the ROMs. Some of the ROMs that are setup nicely for morphable waveforms (Like Vector 1 and Vector 2, Morpheus....) really come alive when you do this

or, anytime you would rather use a joystick instead of turning a knob really

there's a lot you can do with them

dude. you *must use your modular with joystick.
you can automate a million things with only one gesture.

god damn. i'm hyped!

Joysticks are great fun, I have a Doepfer Curtis LP filter and also the HP version and have a little patch that allows me to use the joystick like the traveller on my old Korg 700. X axis have LP cutoff and Y axis HP cutoff. Great fun.

Delay time and wet/dry mix or regeneration, phasers and flangers, clock speeds and loop points. Use with a few VCAs and a couple of inverters for quad spatial location.

still, $450 is insanity

2 joysticks, 2 gate push buttons a voltmeter and 2 patchbays are so simple to design (there really is no design) that a freshman EE student could make one for you.

$50, tops. d'oh!

want insanity?

poor AH got suckered (that's how i read it anyway) into paying way too much for these used, and now have to watch them sit forever (they've been there for many months, while there's still a demand for these in the market)

Simply because they were housed in a box and outfitted with banana plugs.......

wait for it...

$375 each

they have two of them

that's insanity.

These 'sticks are going ~$200 each, at high end pricing, on eBay. Albeit with no box or banana jacks.
Muff Wiggler
i still think $900 for the controller (and he apparently had a buyer who ultimately bailed....) is the high-water mark on discontinued modular gear in the used market. I really did a double-take at that one.

i don't even want a box or bananas It's peanut butter jelly time! sad banana nanners Rasta-nana Rockin' Banana! Dead Banana Bananallama! for a joystick. and let's not forget AH actually lowered the price on those. they were going for $400 or so before.

Yeah, and those boxes really don't look so hot.

im surprised he found anyone that would even consider paying $900 lol
not surprised his buyer bailed TBH.
