MOUSER & Smallbear CARTS ADDED http://l-1.su/MutantVCF.html#3

Here's a new project from L-1 Synth. It's Scott Stites Mutant Vactrol Filter. Thanks a lot to Scott for kindly allowing us to use the design!
This design is a true eurorack no wire panel and pcb design. Components are surface mount 1206 package, easily done with a soldering iron with a nice point on it or with solder paste & hot air.
The project will be available as PCB + panels set from me in September. And as ready-made module assembled by Nathanael King (samuraipizzacat29) in the United States.
Again, a special thanks and much respect to Scott Stites for sharing this great project.
Schematic and info are here: http://www.birthofasynth.com/Scott_Stites/Pages/mutant_main.html
Final boards will be gold/black of course.

Add from samuraipizzacat29 :
Thanks a lot Scott for allowing us to do this and to Alex for the pcb design, prototyping and advice to make this a top quality project. I've wanted to build this module for as long as I've been into electronic music and I'm super psyched we can offer it.
I'll be offering modules of a solid build quality and at the best price I can afford to do it. I haven't built my prototypes yet, but will release a price after I've got the BOM and labor figured.
Thanks a lot guys!
Nate

I'm looking forward to this project! I've always liked the sounds I heard on the Birth of a Synth page for this filter.
Looks like a pretty simple build.

It's peanut butter jelly time!

I've been after this module for so long, i'm so happy this is happening. applause

edit: also, there's a possibility of component kits. I'm not sure on that yet.

love

what is hp? hyper
L-1
16 HP or 80,9mm
fonik
i am in for one. i have to start to fill my next cabinet!

thank you scott!

Possible to run this on 15V & get w/o panel for other formats than eu?
L-1
15V possible, but look at the PCB, if you can adapt it for other format - why not?
I think frac-rack will fit good.

Watching this with great interest - not heard of the filter before but the demos on that page sound WONDERFUL!

Quick question about the SMD parts - I wouldnt be 100% confident of my abilities soldering such small parts. Would someone who put together a x0xb0x and SammichFM (with their small SMD parts) be ok with this project?

Anyway, very interesting folks!

Look at my Mixer assembly guide, Mutant VCF assembly is very similar and I will make such guide for it too. http://greenexpo.by/synth/Mixer.html#1

And 1206 SMDs are not very small - easy to solder with iron too.
fonik
i lately changed to 0805 hand soldering for prototypes. no real issue...

what switches are you using?
L-1
Switches are Multicomp

(on the prototype SPDT ones are other from Banzai, but Multicomp are recommended and I will make 6.5mm holes for them)

I was thinking frac, yeah. If it'll run on 15V OK, then put me down for a PCB please!
ear ear
One PCB for me please! hyper
L-1
It will be sets - PCB + two panels (front and back).
But PCB without panels possible too.
Norman_Phay
PCBs or PCB + back panel for those building in different formats qwould be great, thx! grin
iopop
hmm, supposedly I never really checked the schematics for this one before, since in my mind it used lots of vactrols. It's only two? I feel cheated! smile
L-1
Two duals = 4
Dego
Panel and pcb please
simfonik
I'll take two, please!
