5 oscillators

Post by Kwote » Sun Mar 23, 2008 3:03 am

i just discovered the joy of using 5 oscillators at the same time.
pulse wave from my vco
filter, phaser & lfo in full self oscillation
and the sine wave from my klangwerk

of course i had to modulate it all

i'll post the file later, but dang the shit is thick and it's only one track laid down. that shit is so damn cool.

i'd like to hear what others have done in this vein. stories? patches? post your experiences.

werd.

Did you just mix them all down, or feed them to each other? I typically selfoscillate a filter then feed it to a VCO.

do you feed it into the fm input? i've tried that before.

but yeah VCO pulse to 1st vca
self oscillated filter to same vca
sine from the klangwerk to 2nd vca
self oscillated phaser to 2nd vca
self oscillated lfo to I/O for attenuation purposes

outs for the vca's and I/O to bananalogue 3p

2nd lfo multed to vco fm, filter freq cv and klang's freq cv.
square wave from 2nd lfo to gate on EG1
EG1 out to phaser freq cv.

listening to it now i think i'd like to experiment with something thicker. the phaser's a bit too high most of the time so it doesn't add as much of an impact. but that's an easy fix.

I typically put them into the 1V/O inputs. FM doesn't do too much for me.

fm didnt do too much for me either at first, until i started getting down into the fine details of tuning each oscillator. fm is where the qualities of your oscillators and selfoscillating filters will really shine (or not). now, fm is one of my favorite synthesis techniques. without a doubt, i can get the best bass sounds from a proper fm patch.

what's the most selfoscillating filters you've fed into an fm input?

seriously, i want to hear some examples of what you guys are doing...i never copy peoples patches, but i get inspired off of others ideas sometimes...it's nice to have some cross influence....

i'm gonna repatch the above and run the frequencies closer together. get something more solid worth posting. be back to this thread with it soon!

that type of sound is what ive really been feeding on (rich harmonic bass drones) for the last year or so. if you really like this stuff like i do, i recommend you pick up a metalbox wave multiplier ASAP.

i like this stuff, too, and i like your example. really gritty and rich. i also second the suggestion for a wave multiplier/wave folder module.

i really want to. perhaps i'll build the cgs version. gotta do the drums first though. drums then hexzone is my current immediate plan. but it all depends on how things come together drumwise. if i like the sounds i'm getting without a dedicated sequencer i may temporarily bypass the hex for a bit.

i'm gonna get the kits from elby.

i noticed the tube vca has wave folding capabilities. was already on the list but now it's highlighted.

Metalbox's tube VCA really surprised me at the extent of wavefolding and distortion you can get from it - excellent module, far greater than i expected!

I have a Bananalogue WVX which are also nice and has three different folders on board

and I have a STG Wave Folder which is SUPER NICE, competing with the Tube VCA for my #1 gnarly, dirty, foldy VCA goodness 8)
