Author Oakley Lag for Fracrack

Spotted on Matrixsynth and quickly ordered from Krisp1

super stoked 8) I don't have to tie up a VCS for lag anymore, really looking forward to the arrival of this little baby... dedicated lag has been a major item missing in frac rigs up 'till now

thanks krisp grin awesome job

For whatever reason, I keep reading fracrack like "frac crack".

Maybe it's the start of a new term pertaining to modular synth addition?

"Yo man, you got the hook up on some frac crack?"

You make a good point, Felix-- what's the name "Frac Rack" all about, anyway? Any idea on its origins and meanings?

Oh, and that Oakley lag looks great (especially for the price). Nice front panel design... Any further info on what exactly lag is would be great. The explanation on the product page doesn't really clear things up for me.

"fractional rack"

lag processor = slew generator OR 'slew limiter'

the Bananalogue VCS does it, and the Blacet EG1 can be configured to do it.

Easiest way to understand it, is that it forces attack and decay times to be longer or shorter than in the original signal...

or, another way to explain it -

first, imagine a 'rising staircase voltage', just 90-degree staircase angles.

now - a lag processor/slew generator could convert this staircase voltage into a smooth ramp up, by forcing 'rise time' during a case where there was originally an instantaneous jump in voltage (the raise of the next step in the stiarcase).

if you play keyboards, and want to patch up a portamento (aka. "glide") response, you need to use a lag generator on the pitch CV coming out of your converter, otherwise it'll just rise to the next note/voltage immediately and not glide/slew/lag/portamento it's way up there.

I've got quite a few in stock and if I run out I will just have to get some more made up

Or, yet another description of lag, is a low pass filter. It's why the Mankato can be a lag and the VCS can be an audio filter. The next time I order some Modcan I'm going to get the Multimode Filter, which can be switched to DC. Low pass filtered DC is easy to grasp, but high pass, band pass and notch are a little weirder to imagine.

maybe it's FRA-crack... but it still leaves the question: what does FRA actually stand for? For Routing Addicts? For Rich Artists?

Fractional Crack, hehehehehe I love that lol

dang. i really want one of these a lot more now. in fact i think two might be mandatory. for the longest time i never messed with slew and then finally after acquiring the VCS and configuring the EG for it this past week i've been hooked.

slew adds so much dimension to melodic styles.

thanks Krisp for making this. i'm trying to raise funds as we speak!

Interesting. Could you expand on that a bit?

everything seems so static and on off when playing or sequencing notes. with slew the transition is much smoother. with extreme slew the notes really bleed into each other which at some times might be too overbearing. just depends on the style you're going for. but for me it produces a real gooey funky feel. makes everything seem more cohesive.
