Re: Just some praise to Tony Allgood :)

My favourite projects to build/work on out of the different “companies” I’ve built over the years. Mechanically thoughtfully designed and enjoyable to build, and to date I haven’t had to troubleshoot one when I first switched it on,which is so nice.

Sad to hear MoTM designs are ending. It sounds like I'm in the minority preferring that over MU, but my MoTM synth is expansive enough at this point and I'm ending up with a bit of everything anyhow. Anything that keeps the excellent designs coming is great.

Sorry, I think I've figured it out. I didn't connect that pin 3 was referring to the 3rd pad over on the pcb. I assume the middle pad is for grounding if you want?

EFG Deluxe off board pot advice

Hi there, I'm wiring up an EFG Deluxe and I'm wondering if anyone can answer a question on the 2 off board pots. The build guide indicates there should be a wire connection between the CCW lug of the pot and the round pad, but there are 2 round pads to chose from on the issue 6.1 board so I'm wonder...

My modular is MOTM not MU, but the favorites I have are the MOTM 440, Oakley Croglin, and Oakley Diode Superladder. I'm pretty sure you can get readymade MU versions of the Oakleys

I think I did a silly thing and soldered in the 2 smd 4093 chips the wrong way around, however I'm not 100% sure as I'm not completely sure where the "1" pins are on these. Before I start making a mess of things and trying to remove them, I'm wondering if anyone who knows better can take a quick loo...

I tried the rebooting with the encoder depressed, but it wasn't responsive. It turned out one of the encoder solder joints was bad. Once I fixed that I was able to switch to XT firmware successfully and the unit seems to work normally now.

Thanks.

Shruthi XT troubleshooting advice

Hi there, I’ve recently put together a Shruthi XT with a 4pm filter board, but is exhibiting strange behaviour. Specifically the unit boots up but the parameter value along the bottom of the screen constantly changes rapidly. The push buttons do toggle through different screens. If anyone has any id...

I’m wondering if anyone knows why there are 2N5486 transistors in the current rev mouser cart even though the pcb calls for 2N5485s. Are the transistors in the mouser cart a mistake, or are the 2N5486 transistors functionallynthe same for this application?

Thanks.

I'm wondering if anyone knows why the recent mouser bom calls for 2 - 47uh 5% inductors, but the original bom calls for 1 -220uH 10% inductor, and which is correct. The board seems to be setup for the 1 radial type 220uh inductor unless I'm mistaken.

Thanks

Personally, I use Oakley modules for my "core" modules (VCO/VCA/ADSR/MIXER/ETC) and augment them with modules from other manufacturers that provide something outside of that range. They're excellent. Most of my stuff is MOTM, but Krisp 1 builds the Oakley modules in dotcom.

From the very beginning of MOTM this has not been the case, there have been options out there to augment a system (in 5U) with all kinds of so called West Coast modules You just have to work a little harder to find them I would very much like to hear suggestions for MOTM West Coast type of modules,...

I find this a bit of an odd question. Its not like your MOTM or MU VCO has suddenly stopped being a VCO because a lot more people are buying smaller modules all of a sudden. I do think the popularity of Euro has hurt 5U development, in so far as its popularity has caused manufactures to focus on Eur...

In terms of "width", I've always used 16mm for panel mount, and that seems pretty common for diy. My favorites are the BI Tech 160 series, but Alpha are typical. Shaft length is all over the place. Sometimes I have to buy a longer shaft as that's the only way to get the other parameters, and then I ...

motm cabinet rails

Hi There,

I'm about to build a new MOTM cabinet because my old one is now too small, and I'm wondering if anyone else has built one done so using the "stooge" style flat rails and if they think they are a worthwhile addition over just screwing into wooden rails on their own.

Thanks.

You could try this, just separate the 10 connector cable in to 2 5 connector wide ones. The important thing is the pitch is .100in or 2.54mm:
