Re: What new booty did you buy?

Got a small bonus in my last paycheck and found a sore dick deal on a Behringer MS1. I think this might be the first synth I've had that I've actually liked.

Re: most beautiful synthesizers

Do combo organs count as synthesizers? I'd argue they do.

Re: Safely powering synths on and off.

I would be wary of doing that for anything digital/computerized, for the same reasons you're supposed to click Shut Down on your PC rather than yanking the cord out of the wall. But anything purely analog is probably okay.

Re: Never meet your heroes

My first synth ever was an Akai Miniak, because I was a dumb kid who just graduated high school and basically just wanted a shiny toy. I saw a few demos showing off some of the factory presets and multis and thought it sounded great. Unfortunately, when I got it, it was a different story. Many of th...

Alright, so, two months later and I've made some progress. So this was kickstarted by an accidental discovery. I had since rectified my lack of an oscilloscope with a bargain basement 40 dollar unit from Amazon, which worked about as well as you'd expect it to, but as you will see, it was good enoug...

thanks for sharing your work. one possible issue: depending upon the circuit, a 7906 may not make a good ground reference. it can only sink current, which is fine as long as thats all it has to do. but, its halfway between the rails, so it might have to source current at times, at which point it wi...

My first venture into DIY: repairing a Vox Jaguar

Not quite sure if this is the proper forum for this, but here goes. This is the first real project like this that I've attempted, although I do have a working knowledge of electronics. (I was in the Navy for a bit, training in nuclear reactor instruments and control systems, but a screwed up knee pu...

Alessandro Cortini actually does pretty much exactly what you're talking about. So it's not entirely off the wall to consider it.

You should be able to just patch the pitch bend out from the Doepfer into FREQ and crank up the EG1/EXT knob under Frequency Modulation. How much you turn the knob will control how much the voltage affects pitch.

Alesis Micron/Akai Miniak alternatives?

Bit of a random question here.... So when I first graduated high school, I mustered up as much cash as I could and bought my first "real" synth. This was long before I actually knew my ass from a hole in the ground when it came to synths, so I bought a bit of a stinker: a Miniak. At first I was smit...

Re: Filters... I seem to hate mine. What filters do you pref

The Livewire Frequensteiner could be an option. It's a clone of the Steiner-Parker Synthasystem filter, which is what the Microbrute's filter was based off of.

Just got mine. At first, I was kinda upset that I couldn't change the root note of the Major/Minor modes, since all I have to use this with is an MS20. Then I discovered this trick: Patch dummy plug into EG1 TRIG IN Patch EG1 REV OUT to FREQ (provides static voltage into FM input) Adjust EG1/EXT kno...
