Re: Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms Cascading Delay Network

I've been in the loop during the whole development of the process locally and I think this thing came together wonderfully. It's a really crazy thing going on under the hood. Anyone else watch the livestream? I think Richard did a great job of covering all aspects of the module.

Re: polyrhythm/euclidean sequencer with probability

If it wasn't already mentioned, Pittsburgh Modular Game System has a great Euclidean mode along with several other great "games".
Just choose number of steps and number of beats and instant grooviness. Plus it has an inverted output. I use it all the time.

IMG_20190517_101748.jpg IMG_20190517_121227.jpg Haven't used the Coles in a while, most recent session was on trombone with a really great player. Put it up against a Advanced Audio U67 type design. The Coles was the better choice in that case. Usually wins out on brass. There's an interesting Engl...

Re: Anyone still using a hardware sampler?

That's actually the last hardware sampler I had, an EMU 6400 Ultra. For old heads like myself (55) it's just a question if you're having fun and feeling inspired with certain original equipment and techniques or if you want to adapt your creative process to newer technologies. I love combining iOS a...

Re: Anyone still using a hardware sampler?

"Software samplers are just the equivalent of styrofoam: practical, effective, cheap, convenient, and ... ultimately disposable." Sorry, I can't agree with that statement at all. I've earned my stripes over maaaany years of hardware use, starting in the mid 80's with Casio SK1, whatever that Roland ...

Re: Favorite 80s rack mount digital reverb?

I think the point I was missing is that the OP isn't using the reverb on an aux send/return configuration with a mixer. Honestly, get an inexpensive clean mixer, like a Soundcraft Signature 10 or something with 3 aux sends . Split some of your modular sounds on separate channels, add a couple of ine...

Re: Favorite 80s rack mount digital reverb?

Yeah, not sure I understand the importance of stereo in on reverbs for electronic, dance, pop of anything other than strict code for classical or traditional Jazz. I've been engineering, mixing and producing for about 35 years and I've never cared or found the need for it. I'm creating imaginary env...

Re: Favorite 80s rack mount digital reverb?

I may have mentioned this before, but the current Audiothingies Dr. A combined reverb and delay unit has been coded to sound like FX from that era, and does it very successfully. So you don't necessarily need to search out 40 year old units to get those kind of sounds. It is well worth a listen. Bl...

Agreed, but this thread is about "getting them warm vinyl beats" The simplest path seems to be to sample from vinyl.

Re: How to send mixer aux to guitar pedals and back to the mixer?

I'm doing exactly that with this set up and a couple other mixers with mixed (haha) results. In general it's working out, but it has its quirks. For reverbs and delays, you need to verify that the pedal has the ability to do "100% wet" on the effect out. Need to do more research on the impedance mat...

Found a used DIRT Filter and picked that up. Looks like I can flip the faceplate around backwards.
Did some research on that guy, total right wing douche. Not trying to support him at all.
Will report back after I've had a chance to put it thru the paces.

Zlob SVF looks great. Thanks for all the advice so far.
Does anyone have any examples showing how they're
using any of these filters in practice? Not asking for
anyone to create something just for my inquiry tho.

Re: Looking for a filter that will....like Plague Bearer

Thanks EATyourGUITAR. Yeah the thing is to set it to the edge of oscillation, then hit it with gates, triggers and CV to get it to ring in interesting ways. It's the same way I generate low end basslines and kicks with a low pass gate. This is from last night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53rEeVd...

Looking for a filter that will....like Plague Bearer

So I have a pair of Plague Bearers, one of which I use as a self oscillating sound source to ping and plink with gates and rhythmic patterns from the Generator X etc... The PB is weird and magical, but really unreliable in live performance. For those of you that have never used one, there's a trick ...
