Re: Roland Boutique TR-08. thoughts?

I thinking of picking one of these up.

How well do you think it will sit in a mix with modular, elektron boxes, and an OB-6? .... that is without too much processing.

Re: Why do FM patches so often sound like bells (NOOB ALERT!)

Regarding FM patches all sounding like bells... that might just be the situation with the DEXED presets? I've been using Ableton's Operator and the Digitone a lot lately (both FM synths) and I've been making some amazing bass drums, thick bass, hi-hats, and snares. Some of the sounds I've been makin...

Re: Why do FM patches so often sound like bells (NOOB ALERT!)

There's a lot to unpack in your question, but I just wanted to respond to the last part of your post regarding storing data from a recorded instrument and playing it back as a synthesizer... I've often found that the 'uncanny valley' effect of this is ultimately off-putting. If we're talking about m...

Are D16 Group Audio VSTs compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina?

Dreadfully looking to buy a new macbook and considering the implications of re-installing my existing audio tools. According to the D16 website: "Officially not and we do recommend to withhold with ugrading, but if you've already done it or got computer with Catalina preinstalled it's possible our p...

Re: Make Noise LxD problems

Mine does the same. This is a common thing with vactrols (the type of resistors used in the LxD and the Optomix and I think the mix control of the Echophon).

You can patch the top channel through the bottom to minimize that bleed. Prob not the answer you want, but this is the reality of this module.

Re: O-Coast no Gate just trigger

Also, to check if the sustain knob is indeed turned up... check the width of your gate. For example on the Metropolis sequencer, you can modify the width of the gate signal to be really short like a trigger.

You'll be fine.

If this were some DIY, homebrew type of module, then you *might* want to tread carefully, but this is a well-built synth.

Side note: your avatar is.. a bit much, no?

I want to second the approach of using multiple instance of Operator in a drum rack. I actually spent all of last Sunday building drum racks of purely Operator synthesized drums. Futuristic for days. Don't forget that the way you process a sound is just as important as the synthesis of the sound its...

That is by no means Ableton's fault. This is all a result of Apple's brazen OS release.

I reckon the reason this sounds "acid" to you is purely because of the sequenced pattern. The sound itself is just a filtered sample of a minor chord.

i don't think anyone has officially named this kind of sound, but it is very indicative of detroit techno.

The playback always starts back where you have your cursor, which i find much more useful than the point where the transport was stopped. I love Tortoise and I've seen them countless times (Chicago born and raised) and they definitely opened my ears and mind to new horizons in music.

I never really got the post-rock genre label either. At the end of the day, aren't Tortoise just prog-rock?
