Cool.
Do you use that NOS stock for ALL the Tantalum positions on the 2 boards?
Is there a big difference between them and the mouser caps?
Cheers.

Great stuff boops.
Lots of helpful info.
Those caps in the photo?
Are those the ones in the mouser BOM or special ones you have found.

Amazing project.
Buchla, 200 series, DIY, vactrols!
What’s not to love.
That 296 looks like a total headache. Bet it’s sound lovely though.

Thanks momo. I found those verbos pics. Dave brown has just put up some closeup images of a vintage 259 (or maybe vintage recreation) which will be very helpful. It’s part of the MEMS project and is mentioned over in the Buchla forum section. Look forward to building and posting my progress (or lack...

Would the vactrols need matched for this like in a low pass gate?
Or will any vactrols work for this module?
Cheers. Look forward to building.

Re: I want to make a Buchla video for you!
I would also like to see a 292 video. A very simple waveform into the audio input and then various pulses and envelope shapes (very short and then Long) feeding the CV input in the 3 different modes. This is a selfish request as I have finished a 292r clone and would like to see if my vactrols are g...

I would also very much like an in depth 291 video.

Re: Buchla 258c (rev.3.0) PCB
Thanks Dave.
I will try your resistor changes in parallel to sort the sine before I start removing transistors.
Much easier.
Thanks for all the help guys. I will report back
Now I need to find a nice resistor substitution box.

Re: Buchla 258c (rev.3.0) PCB
Thanks for all the info guys. I will buy some more j201 from mouser (SMD) and when I find six that are in spec (from the dunington audio BOM data ) I will swap them out on my 258. I will do the 3 in the top oscillator first to see if it works just in case Thanks for help. It’s a shame the Roman BOM ...

Re: Buchla 258c (rev.3.0) PCB
Exactly the same on both oscillators.
It’s slight but it’s noticeable
Do I need to match all 6 J201?
I didn’t do that
Oh dear....

Hey guys Just finished my Rev 3 258c (Roman) and it sounds amazing Not calibrated the tracking yet but will use Dave browns excellent notes. A quick question. My sine has little “camel humps” at the top and bottom of the waveform. I have the trimmer maxed clockwise Has anyone experienced this? I’m n...

What does the auto tune function do?
Is it just a sine tone to tune to like on the minimoog?

Re: Buchla format cases | cables | knobs | PCBs & panels
Not to de-rail the thread... But how are people testing vactrols? Matching resistance or Pinging a 292 and recording the Audio and measuring audio decay on a DAW? Or just what sounds good by ear? Is matching important in the 291 filter and 259 also or is it just an issue with LPGs? Hoping to build s...

Re: [IC] vintage 6-voice polysynth kit project?
Great to hear it is now all through hole.
I promised myself I would only ever commit to one diy polysynth (due to the time, effort and cost of building) and this is it!
Can’t wait.
We’re going to need a bigger roll of solder.

218 touch keyboard pressure stepping
Hey guys
I am interested to know if the official 218s (old and new) have a stepped voltage on the pressure CV out rather than a smooth one
I have read that some of the DIY Clone 218s have stepping on the pressure out and wanted to know if that is a “feature” on all models
Thanks

Re: [IC] vintage 6-voice polysynth kit project?
I’m hoping for mostly TH.
I take no joy in SMD.
My eyes and hands and patience struggle with it.
I’m also hoping for a EU based distributor to handle this side of the ocean.
Amazing project. Great work.
