Re: Extralife Instruments Super Sixteen sequencer - now on Kickstarter!

100% what I was looking for - thanks! I love the fact that it’s geared towards performance. I’m curious - can you apply a subdivision on an individual step? Or more generally, can you apply targeted, per step mutations outside of the ‘performance recording’ approach to mutations?

Re: Extralife Instruments Super Sixteen sequencer - now on Kickstarter!

Hey man - you should put out a demo of the more exotic Mutate features! I’m backing now - hope this gets funded!

Ambient/new age/cosmic Euro

I’ve never done an all Euro track before, but while I was replacing the flooring in my studio I recorded the track below with a smallish 10u/84hp wide system, Beatstep Pro and Zoom h4n Pro. Copper Traces driving a Bateleur as bass, Beatstep Pro ch 1 driving a Mangrove > Aion 904a as lead sequence, m...

Coupla questions: This seems a lot cheaper from XO to US then Perfect Circuit. Would I have to pay some kind of import tax? Ideally, I’d love to use a KeyStep via midi or cv to quickly hash out the main melody of a pattern into NerdSeq via step editing and fine tune from there in the module. Is that...

I had a Mangrove and sold it. Missed it so much and thought JF would be ‘more better’ but it did not satisfy the itch for me. Mangrove just has a sound. Sold the JF and now have a Mangrove again and all is right. Mangrove is also the only module I have ever bought, sold and bought again.

These are all modern: Jonathan Snipes & William Hutson - Room 237 (and I’m sure the OST to Starry Eyes too) They use a big DIY MOTM and tons of vintage synths. These dudes are in clipping. who are also incredible. Room 237 is an amazing, pitch perfect 70s synth homage to Goblin, while Starry Eyes ta...

Is the the Low Cut knob *extremely* subtle? I can barely tell if it’s high-passing the repeats. Could someone throw up a video of the Low Cut clearly affecting the sound? Even in the ‘Tone and Mechanics’ video it seems like it hardly changes the sound.

You can definitely bypass it- you have to enable the option to send original notes (somewhere in Sync I think) and then hold the Hold button until it blinks (this prevents notes from triggering the Arp).

This is very helpful! I was wondering if I could kludge the DIN connectors to make it similar to the QPS4 and Portable 11 connectors - thanks for confirming. I have a bit of experience building modules and just recently built my own Euro case and PSU, so I should hopefully be able handle these mods....

Mounting QPS2 in DIY case?

Planning a foray into 5U with a small DIY case and looking at the QPS2 as the PSU option. It looks like its intended to just hang loose with an open-backed case, but I'm wondering if anyone figured out a better solution for mounting it inside a closed-back case and coming up with a cleaner/more prof...

It Includes cool stuff like being able to scroll through programs with the knob. Edit: ..wow just found the link with instructions... gotta replace a chip or something...

I just got round to playing with the FM input on my mangrove, it sounds like it is quantising the incoming signal, does anyone else have this? This shouldn't be because of the AC coupling - you should still get smooth FM. Are you set to constant Formant mode? I've not played with this mode so much ...

Replacing inter-board connector - Prophet 600

I need to replace a connector that bridges two PCBs in a Prophet 600 because the connection is wonky, but I'm not sure of the best approach and looking for advice/parts recommendations. The pads seem only large enough for a pin, so a larger stranded wire (which I would prefer) isn't feasible. I pref...

Would it be possible to add a glide feature to the quantizing and sequencing apps? If you wanted to get real deep with it, you could choose different glide responses (log,Lin...) and make the glide on/off assignable via trigger (like the FCUK S/H Noise module).

As calaveras says above, some knobs are cheap quality. The Davies have no metal insert and the plastic around the set screw can get messed up easily since it seems pretty soft - but at the same time, I’ve used a ton of them and haven’t stripped the set screw yet.

Keep in mind the OC output cannot exceed 6.25v. If your input voltage + OC note settings exceed that, the note will not change since it will stay at 6.25v. Try pushing the octave down on the OC to give it more headroom and turning the base frequency on the VCO up. Playing with these should help.

DIY precision adder/octave switch?

Any Euro DIY modules with PCB/panel like this, Beast's Chalkboard, A-185-2? FCUK Trans Europa can do that, but it's bigger and has more features than I need. Plus I would still need a mult to distribute to multiple VCOs. Fitzgreye had something close too, but that only ranged one octave up/down. I'm...

After playing with it some more, I'd actually be more interested in changing resistor values to increase the headroom before the input starts to distort. It has to be pretty quiet to avoid distorting the input too. I get this filter is all about the distortion, but the Doepfer wasp could sound nice ...
