Re: 100k input resistance... isn't

Maybe we should better discuss politics, or religion, or maybe even sex at this point. I'm planning on staying neutral here, but IMHO we starting to move pretty far from the normal and cordial MW atmosphere. This has ceased to be a constructive and informative thread. Please argue outside this wonde...

Re: 100k input resistance... isn't

Nobody seems to be mentioning the capacitance of patched cables in arbitrarily patched systems as a *good* reason to have *some* resistance outside the OPA output FB. Another reason to consider not putting the output jack (and therefore the output resistor) inside the feedback loop, is that when th...

Re: 100k input resistance... isn't

Serge designed his modules with the protection/stability output resistors inside the feedback loop, so the varying loads are compensated for. Using banana jacks, he knew patches would stack and fan out outputs to multiple inputs. As the load increases on the output the op amp increases its gain, so...

Re: MS20 VCO instability

NP. Happy to have another view here, and yes - it depends on many things. Not trying to split hairs here, but I have found variances between vendors / processes. In the early 80's I was working for a manufacturer of industrial controls and we had some problems with a Fairchild 7805. The input to the...

Re: MS20 VCO instability

From what I can hear in your OP audio, I'll put money on this being a power supply issue. As others have observed, you experience these symptoms when the VCO is close to the AC mains frequency - in your case (USA) 60Hz. I don't have, nor have ever worked on a MS20, but the schematic shows that +18V ...

Looks like a lot of fun. Do you have power and depth specs yet?
Power is about +15V @ 22ma, and -15V @ 20ma. Depth is about 1.5" behind panel.

What kind of tube is it?
Technically - It's a miniature Russian 1J24B pentode. Very low filament and operating voltage and current.

SSL - New 1530 Tube VCA (CGS)

Hey guys, Just a heads up. I'll be releasing our new CGS "inspired" Tube VCA in a few days. Assembled PCBs are in house and I'll be getting a few ready for shipping in the next few days. $295 retail. This thing is the TITS! Sounds crazy awesome! Lot's of warm real 1950's Russian tube distortion. In ...

Re: Best LED or method to get an incandescent lamp look for your panel?

Edit: Can't help but think how the lamp-LED turn-on can be likened to a snappy EG attack. That more than 'fastest' matters. Isn't that the whole 'Vactrol' thing? using the turn on and turn off in a LED to generate an organic slope response for a filter? genuinely asking this question.... Good point...

Re: Best LED or method to get an incandescent lamp look for your panel?

Good question. I don't have an answer, but I note that there are some wonderful new household & decorative light bulbs that have come out that completely fooled me by how much they look like incandescent filaments. So it IS possible... http://mobileimages.lowes.com/product/converted/043168/043168335...

Re: AC coupling for modulators?

I'd agree on possibly moving this as Thorsday suggests, but... If you are using an audio frequency to linear modulate a "standard" VCO, there will be a perceptible upward pitch shift. AC coupling might help a little in some cases but will never solve the problem. If you want "true" FM synth sounds, ...

Re: SSL Serge USG - NOW SHIPPING !!!

Great suggestions guys. I'll keep it in mind.

I also think I might change the scale on the frequency pots to be more like "-" "0" "+" instead of 0 to 10 (boring and not really the most descriptive.)

I'll add that the EML-200 (1969) and all subsequent EML synths used 470 ohm resistors on all their outputs. :nana:

Doug, could there be an option for banana jacks in your modules? That could be an answer for a dedicated 5U Serge system.
