Re: uVCF vs Polaris

Thanks for the info. I think that answers my question. Polaris is probably an excellent filter in its own right but it's definitely not a drop in replacement for my uVCF.

uVCF vs Polaris

I love my uVCF. i think it might be long lived module at this point. It's not fancy but it's such a solid filter- it just keeps getting use. The Polaris is obviously much more full-featured but can anyone speak to how they compare sonically? I assume that they are different sounding enough that I wo...

Re: Xaoc Odessa, 1975 Variable Spectrum Harmonic Cluster VCO

Odessa can easily produce all the Crisis of Representation timbres. I think your ears are being fooled by Lazar's signature amplitude modulation patterns. I just haven't heard many examples of bass. Most demo patches are twinkly bell like tones that just don't do it for me. I'd love to be shown the...

Re: Xaoc Odessa, 1975 Variable Spectrum Harmonic Cluster VCO

I heard Gabor Lazar's Crisis of Representation 4 a while back, honestly - it is still the most disturbing and unique thing I've heard for as long as I can remember. Although I have no idea what he used (it was before Odessa was around), this is one of the sounds that come to mind when I am experime...

Re: Bastl Timber vrs Toppobrillo triple wave folder

I will say it is a bit "sharper" than expected but I actually think this is a benefit. A lot more shaping possibilities for when you need some filter fodder as they say. You can still definitely get the rounded/"woody" tones from the timbre, would recommend overall for sure. 'sharper' is a really g...

Re: Bastl Timber vrs Toppobrillo triple wave folder

I'll go against the grain a bit and say I really like my timbre. I do not own the Toppobrillo but the demos never convinced me to buy it either. The timbre is definitely not subtle but it is capable of some pretty unique aggressive sound manipulations. Lots of high end energy but not the silly metal...

Re: Know MAX/MSP? I need your advice

Re: The beap modules- I like the idea but if you want to go the route of 'higher level' audio / almost modular build blocks, i think something like reaktor blocks or VCV rack is further along. Max/MSP can certainly do all of that from a technical perspective but I think all of the beap modules were ...

if you know Max...where would you start? ... I'd start with this: https://www.amazon.com/Step-Adventures-Sequencing-Max-MSP/dp/1732590303 For what's its worth, here is my perspective on max: Only use max/msp when the tool you are looking for doesn't already exist. I say this because if you get into...

But Jim took care of me. Gotcha. I'll hit up Jim and see what he says. Thanks for help everybody! So I contacted Jim and wa...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer Teaser

Firmware is 1.4.0. I also made sure that the none of the Parts are attempting to use any of the J-Exp trigs in their Control screen. All parts are using MDC(via MIDI), and 'auto' reset. I thought things might get weird if part of the sequence was saying 'hey, output clock divisions through J-Exp tri...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer Teaser

Has anyone been able to successfully use the j-exp triggers in the expander? I'm have difficulty getting them to work. The expander itself seems fine because I can get it out output gates for parts but the trig jacks aren't working for input or output. The simplest scenario I can't get to work: Use ...

My Waver just arrived but i'm not sure which side to position the power connector's red strip. Should I position the red-strip side of the 10 pin connector facing the top of the module or facing the bottom? I couldn't find anything printed on the circuit board or in the manual to indicate the correc...

Re: Why are people selling Mutable Instruments?

because they sound like pluggins So, you seriously contend that a decent portion of people have purchased MI modules without knowing what they "sound like" and once they have discovered that "they sound like pluggins" they have put them up for sale? I really don't want this to devolve into a flamew...

Re: Why are people selling Mutable Instruments?

Also, many MI modules may appeal to those just starting out, and as they learn more and see where they want their system to go they find more specialized alternatives and swap. I think this is more dominant that people want to admit. New users often gravitate towards MI modules. As an example, ther...

While the Jomox doesn’t have the best interface, it does have 100 patches.
Yeah, and the interface isn't that bad. You just have to read the manual but i guess that's not usually a requirement for kick drum modules so it throws a lot of people off.

So I went to a shop (not saying which, just my favorite) and spent a good time comparing all kicks. I used my HD25 so I could judge on my 20 years of listening imprinting. I wanted to buy one specific module but left the shop without it but with a smile, knowing that I own (for my taste) the best k...

Re: FIVE12 Eurorack Vector Sequencer Teaser

I've noticed there's lag between the pitch and gate. This means on modules that 'snapshot' values I have to manually add a gate delay to account for that lag. On other normal modules, it means the pitch ever so slightly glides between notes and to remove that I either need to add a gate delay or in...
