Re: DIY POD 18HP (AUS)
I could have 3Dprinted a nicer box for a small fee. The shipping would be expensive to Australia. Also, Australia likes to smash the boxes before they deliver them. Not sure PLA would cut it if warm electronics are inside... We tried printing PA (nylon) cases but the process is not so easy. Also th...

Re: Why 1000pF as opposed to 1nF?
The one I really don't understand is using mF for "microfarad"... (µF/uF for simplicity is the convention). And for SMT resistors, 470 is actually 47R (47*10^0). For me, the prefix gave some info about the type of cap. uF would always be electrolytic, nF for decoupling ceramics and pF for more preci...

Re: midiphy LoopA
Hehe thanks!
Two points there: you have 16 slots and you can of course send multiple instances to a single port (one user asked if they could echo everything onto USB). And you have 32 user instruments with custom naming to easily identify synths connected to a given port and MIDI channel.

Re: midiphy LoopA
Hello,
LoopA should follow any clock with the right settings, so I would first check that the clock is being sent? What device is it? Can you check for the clock bits in the MIDI monitor? Also try another clock source, try a DAW over USB MIDI etc.
Best,
Andy

Re: midiphy LoopA
All good! I wanted to ask you, i have been reading the manual, but could not come up with an answer, how many different cc can i have per clip? Presently there is only one CC per clip (track) as an "extra layer". This was already an add-on to the the original note looping :). There is a plan to allo...

Re: midiphy LoopA
Great! The 2k2 THT resistors would ship in a few days or you probably have some in the parts drawer. Actually you could use any value (1k/4k7) as the pullups are for unused I2C ports. But probably a resistor should go in. The right-angle tact switch has a long lead time. It's not needed for operatio...

Thank you! Yep, you can record (or generate!) arbitrary CC waveforms or steps in their own layer per track. No need to link them to notes

Re: midiphy LoopA
Cool! The gate in is only a "dumb" digital input, so no real chance for CV sorry! Not even sure if there is enough memory to scan an ADC. Also, no op amp/scaling circuit for it... and the STM32F4 ADCs are notoriously bad/noisy. We should get a *hopefully* "final" case top shortly. Then we'll be able...

Re: midiphy LoopA
Thanks! Peter has done a really great job on the software. If you have ideas for the gate input, let's compile a list and we can add it to a firmware release. Not quite at the moment because we're busy with the MatriX, but gate support must be added at some point. Normally if two or more requests fo...

Just checked: current Mouser parts come out at about 100€ (including EU VAT).
Also, yay, new metal cases are back in stock if you were waiting for one

Re: Update from Mutable Instruments on a DivKid youtube comment? 3 more releases?
If I remember, some differences in MI philosophy started to come in after a certain Make Noise interview, where the creators considered alternative firmware and easter eggs as not "respecting" ones own design choices. I wonder if that played a role in Clouds' discontinuation.

Prototyping SMT I often stack 1206 caps to find a new value, especially if I don't have a particular type on hand.

midiphy wirescanner cable tester
https://youtu.be/8dbTceFXT4g I had an idea to test cables with a simple circuit and LED matrix visualisation. All is done with counters, logic gates and octal drivers -- no MCU here! A good cable illuminates as 1:1 up to the pin count. An inverted cable displays on the opposite diagonal. Offsets wou...

Re: Solution to clogged hole with solder
Desoldering braid to remove the last remenants always works for me. You need some sort of flux to make the solder flow (contained in quality braid that's not too old). If you can get most of it out, I also sometimes go for the "push through" method. I'd advise caution when drilling out pads. You cou...

there is midiphy loopa.. i would like to have features like independent loop lengths check undo last recording undo on a continuous loop is somewhat undefinable... the hack/trick/solution is to first copy your clip at any point and if the the next overdub is not what you want, just clear the track ...

If it explodes, well then it was the wrong way around. But using old tants is probably not the best idea anyway. As far as I know, modern parts are much more reliable.

V4+ can only run on STM32F4. V4 can run on LPC17 and STM32F1 (less memory available). The changelog is the best place to look!

Peter joined the midibox forum about two years after this ...ahem... "discussion" took place, so he's not the one who should apologise :). In the intervening 12, almost 13 years, things are quite different! Many of the people Nelson Baboon interacted with are no longer part of that community. It's f...

Like I hear talking about 'through hole' vs smt, and insisting that one is better than the other, but fuck if I have any opinion on it. I don't believe there's actually any difference, is there? Or maybe i'm wrong. There's a common misconception - which I would probably hold myself if i hand't seen...

Re: A bit of a rant. State of tech in 2020.
On the midiphy site they list several "trusted builders" who they allow to build these and sell them to you. In theory, anyone you know and trust can build a SEQ v4+ for you. We just happen to know a few people whom we vouch for. In saying that, we also know of several people who built a sequencer ...

Hi Steve,
Not personally, I'll let you know if there I hear something from Peter. The light|shields can only help with isolation but IMO it will be better with the "windowed" keycap with opaque sides.
Best,
Andy
