not to mention a version of Eric's vacuum tube wah pedal
Is there a schematic available for this? Sounds like a cool project! A friend of mine recently got a Mutron wah to run his vocals through and it is harsh and noisy. Maybe this would work better? ANyway, a schem would be awesome!

Looks like the listing got pulled before I could weigh in. Yup, sold mine for $2800 about this time last year. As for my amps and tube stuff I am filling my current orders and then taking a break from the bench for a while. Building this stuff can make you a bit crazy and its not just the solder fum...

All of the amps I build do exactly this: attenuate the signal coming off the output transformer secondary so that it can safely go into headphones or the input another device. This tends to work better with lower wattage amps as there is less voltage and heat to worry about, but it is a simple circu...

Please, don't. You're not helping me. I think I may have struck a nerve. I wasn't trying to be a good little elf and help Santa deliver toys, I was just legitimately curious about this oddball tube's availability. JUKEBOXES! I knew there was a logical answer. When insane hoarders start grabbing up ...

the supply of 2D21 tubes is becoming shaky. We'll keep making R-55s for at least another year. After that, I can't guarantee any VCO using thyratrons would be economic, except as a very expensive "boutique" device. Is there a specific model of 2D21 that you use exclusively? Do they not test well or...

That makes sense. As for the posting rules on for sale items I just didn't know the rules, but I do now. Hopefully the fact that I have been making cool sound devices for over a decade will get me a little leniency since mine was a case of an experienced person just new to this site rather than some...

Says the guy with a 28 post count, violating not one but TWO of muffs rules. Forgive me, I didn't realise the 100 post rule for classifieds or mentions of stuff for sale is signatures, etc. I'm not a big forum poster, more of a lurker. I need to sell this to get a truck long before I can muster up ...

That is exactly what I thought. Thanks for confirming, Eric.

On a related topic, since it is discontinued, is there any chance you could post (or perhaps privately e-mail) a schematic of the Wretch? I had so much fun building those early modules, a DIY Wretch would be the shit.

So, is the Wretch REALLY discontinued? I heard from someone that they are still being made by request and sold for $3300. I am pretty sure this is erroneous information, but I am just looking for some confirmation either way.

No, this guy is in the UK. I traded a custom dual amp setup and one of my modded SK-1's for it. I just got it today and it looks to be in great shape. Just a tiny bit of rack rash.

Unfortunately I had to put it aside for now to finish up some paying gigs. I will get back to it soon, though I have scaled back my expectations quite a bit. I am going to keep it simple and get it going before I try to dive into weird mods and such.

What is a Wretch Machine worth these days?

I recently made a trade with a guy where he is sending me a very nice Wretch Machine for some of my custom tube amps. Anyway, I may consider selling it or trading for some other stuff, but the current market for it seems a bit confusing. The problem is that it seems like they go for way more money n...

Wow, Eric, thanks for your input and that link. I've always liked Lorin's work and I'm surprised I didn't come across this link earlier. I am still new to the concepts in this Solovox and I am trying to figure out how or even IF it could fit in with a modular setup. CV inputs aside, what do you thin...

It arrived the other day, but I have been too busy working on other projects to dissect it yet. There are already a few mods from what I can see, including two 1/4" jacks that I am pretty sure are not stock. The way this thing was built into a standalone instrument is neat, but I think I will just b...

I am in Asheville, NC. Thanks for the offer, I would for sure take you up on it if we were closer. Don't worry I will be asking for plenty of help right here, though! First step is just getting it to work as it is, then I will add the mods on at a time. If I can develop a good set of mods, I may con...

I had to search "through zero" and see all that drama attached to it. Sheesh! Neat design, but I am pretty sure this old tube synth won't do it! However tubes have weird things that transistors and ICs don't, screen grids! As Eric Barbour's creations prove, there are a lot of unique things you can o...

Looking closer at the schematic, the circuits are really no different than modern transistor-based devices, just completely barebones! The amplifier section is a power amp that drives a speaker, but it also functions as a VCA essentially. I am not aware of another vari-mu VCA power amp. Anyway there...

Ilona watching. Is the divide-down circuitry neon based? I've been playing with neons lately. No, the divide down circuitry uses all vacuum tubes! Tube Modular Synth from Modified Hammond Solovox

Inspired by the work of Eric over at Metasonix I have decided to build an all-tube modular synth, DIY style. Eric has schematics up for his early rack modules that I will eventually be building myself. But before I get to THOSE modules, I plan on restoring and modifying one of the earliest synthesiz...

In case you didn't know, there was a premium American version called 12AD7
The Akai Roberts monoblocks came stock with a Japanese-made NEC 12AD7. They nearly always test like new and sound AMAZING. In fact I like all the NEC made tubes, but I rarely see them outside of these Akai amps.
