Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

Thanks kipling + LED-man, LED-man I sent you an email. I'm finally getting around to building my rev. 3 PCB! Are you sorted for these switches now? The only place that has them available now at a sensible price seems to be tti, https://www.tti.com/content/ttiinc/en/apps/part-detail.html?mfrShortnam...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

Does anyone have a good source for 17 Switchcraft 46313LDRX? Mouser is out of stock of them for now, and they would've been $2.90 per unit. Other distributors were more expensive, which at 17 adds up. I believe DSL-Man/LED-Man may have a set of them. He’s in Germany though. I presume you are buildi...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

The Meanwell DKE10A-15 is a much cheaper option than the Artesyn part. Currently £15.06 at Mouser. Can't argue with that. I've opened the sequencer up now and my board is actually the REV 2 from May 2nd 2015.Can I still use that converter? Yes indeed you can. The dc/dc converter only changed at Rev...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

You’ll need the original style dc/dc converter with the 1” x 2” footprint similar to the early TTSH. There are a few cheaper options other than the one I originally specified. I looked up the Rev 1 Mouser BOM on LED Man's page and it looks like that part is still the same, i.e. AEE00CC18-LS. Am I g...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

Assuming that you have socketed the ICs, I would remove all components (there are only four ICs) that connect to TP17 on net 0454; Z25, Z21, Z24 and Z27 and check that TP17 is not held high or low by a short to +15V or Ground, it should be totally floating. Check the sockets are OK from above (no go...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

Note that these six trimmers are not in the original ARP design so do not appear in the service manual. I added them to make the 1601 clone more eurorack-friendly where gate/clock voltages of 14V could be damaging.

There are six of them along to top edge of the PCB. Each is marked with its function. I’ll sort out a picture ASAP.

Thanks Kipling - that may well be the issue....perhaps it was set for Eurorack rather than an original 2600....

Really appreciate the prompt advice.

THX !
More likely those trimmers were left mid-position as they generally are from the factory.

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

If you have one of the latest Rev 6a PCBs then all the gate and clock outputs have individual trimmers along the top of the board to set the output voltage. They are all labelled so you should be able to adjust them all to suit. For ARP gear including the TTSH you will need to adjust these to maximu...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

^ alfa has a 3046 now in both dip and SOIC Thanks for making that known. I see that Thonk (UK) now stocks both versions https://www.thonk.co.uk/shop/alpha-as-series-ic-chips/ and SynthCube stock the DIP14 version https://synthcube.com/cart/alfa-rpar-synth-ics. I presume there are other suppliers too.

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

@Kippling, do you think it would be possible for someone who is crazy to get that MC14528 SMT from mouser into use? Or will the DIP have to be ordered somewhere else? I just can't be bothered finding a supplier to order a single component from... Below is what was missing from mouser and will need ...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread

R210/R211 Values I am gently building my 1601 (rev 5) and was wondering about R210/R211 values one is 10k the other 100k, this traces back to the original service manual. Both resistors are however used at the same place in channel A and B quantized output memory. There is obviously an error, altho...
