Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread
Would this be an indication that Z30 is faulty? I'm not getting ANY voltage on either quantized output now. If you’re seeing normal activity at TP18, and on pins 6 and 12 of Z30, then it does point to Z30 being faulty. If nothing is happening on pins 6 and 12 then it points to something upstream su...

Re: 5600 sys
I also am new to this site and have just rescued my aging and incomplete synth from my parents house. This was also purchased from southend way back and I am now looking to rebuild/finish with a few modifications, mainly the obsolete patch panel. This is my main concern as I would like to know if a...

Re: [Build Thread] Jasper, an EDP Wasp Clone
Mine has a totally different strange issue. The keybed only works, reacts in room temperature and above. In my gardens man-cave-block-hut where I put things together I have noticed that I always need to heat the place to room temperature before the jasper works. This became clear now during winter ...

Re: ARP 3620 clone project
Unfortunately, I didn't read through far enough in the thread and this doesn't fit into a 3604 keyboard so I can't do the project. (I just wanted to swap out my 3604 module.) I was going to say that you can squeeze the PCB into the 3604-P case by carefully sanding it down on three or four sides (be...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread
It was always a 3046 chip anyway. A 3086 would probably work but they were discontinued years before the 3046 was, so will be harder to find. I’m not actually sure the 3086 was ever produced in SOIC.

There is also the AS3046 now, in DIP and SOIC.

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread
There have been some issues recently with certain LM301AN chips, so you may want to try an alternative if you can.

Re: Arp 1601 Sequencer clone
If I understand you correctly, you want to effectively have a silent pause at one position? If so just set that position’s gate switch to Gate Bus 2, while all others are set to Gate Bus 1 and wire only Gate Bus 1 to the Gate input on the 2600. That way it will not trigger the envelope for that posi...

Re: Arp 1601 Sequencer clone
Hi I am building a 1601 ver.6b and think that I have a problem with my power supply. Herewith short situation description: Not mounted are: IC (only sockets), switches, jacks, PL2 foot switch header. Otherwise all other components are soldered. PL4 power switch header is bridged. DC7DC converter fr...

Re: Arp 1601 Sequencer clone
Yes, if you can squeeze a resistor and zener diode into a jack plug. Make sure that you use the cable the right way round as putting a zener diode directly across the sequencer output will probably damage something.

It was Z23... the 301! delighted to get this fully operational - Thanks Kipling - exceedingly good advice. (Can't believe I just pulled parts from my TTSH to fix something else... EEK) Iain Excellent news and thankfully an easy fix - glad to be of service. Hope you can get a suitable replacement or...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread
OK, next up try substituting Z23 (LM301AN) and Z31 (CD4007UBE).
Check the values of R189 & R190 and C28 and soldering for them and Z31.
Are you able to post pics of TP11 & 12 together on a scope (TP12 should be an inverted copy of TP11), and TPs 19, 20 & 21.

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread
I’d need to check the circuit diagram but it sounds like it could be a dead 4016 switch IC. Will check tomorrow. Thanks Kipling, I just tried swapping out the 4016 at Z30 and it's still the same unfortunately.. Iain. It was worth a try. I’ll try and get some time tomorrow to look over the schematic...

And then you can shrink it another 50%! ;-)
Or not....

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread
So I'm going to take it that since it appears that the LM301 is at fault, I'm not going to do those measurements :-D Looks that way for now. I shall be experimenting with an SMT LM201 shortly, along with a few other changes for a forthcoming Rev 7. They way things are going, it’ll end up being enti...

Re: ARP 1601 clone Build Thread
Thanks @KSS. It’s odd that this issue has not occurred until now. There have been no changes to the track layout in that area since my first prototypes which continue to work fine. It would therefore suggest that component specs/quality may have changed along the way - the original Panasonic MLCC ca...

Is this project going to be available to buy at some point? Using Google Translate I can't find any reference to how to buy a kit or the PCBs etc.

Re: Arp 1601 Sequencer clone
If anyone is interested in buying the 1601 clone used by Tom Holkenberg (aka Junkie XL) used in the soundtrack to the film Deadpool, it is currently for sale on Reverb for around €2500, which is vintage 1601 price territory. There is also one described as a 1623 for just over €2000. Both a little am...
