Re: Favorite FX units for drum machines?

Not a FX unit per se, being a compressor, but .... quite tasty on drums: https://images.reverb.com/image/upload/s--7_cGys3X--/t_card-square/v1566851789/nhhhuksnjdhoar3tuouf.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSR5z3aHbbw This is actually pretty nice for a compact compressor. Easy to use with stereo...

5U sounding Oscillator, not in 5U format?

I've always loved the sound of 5U modular. I'm guessing it's the higher voltage used that makes it sound beefier than stuff I hear from Eurorack. I have a Eurorack setup because it's as compact as I want it to be, but I've wanted to get a small 5U system because I really love the sound of a lot of t...

Re: When gear has lots of features you don't use do you want to downgrade?

The only way I feel like I want to downgrade is if downgrading will feel like an upgrade in the sense less is more. Not saying that's the best way, but sometimes gear can get in the way. If you feel you need a more focused synth or setup, do that! Seriously, do that. Your gut is telling and it's usu...

Re: SOMA Labs - The Pipe

it's somewhat brutal to buy just a mic from them because the shipping is about the cost of the mic. I hear you: I just bit the bullet and ordered a Sensel Morph overlay whose shipping cost was greater than the cost of the item. It's the principle more than the actual money involved, I guess, but I ...

Not gonna preorder this one, but oddly if I do get one I want it to say “Prophet 5” even if it’s got 10 voices.
Or maybe Prophet 5 x2

Re: Dave Smith hints at Sequential Prophet 5 Rev4/Prophet 10

what if the module version is like the prophet 12 module and they give it only 5 knobs I don't doubt the P12 module is a pretty nice interface considering the limited space and controls, but there is something to be said for having plenty of knobs to tweak the parameters without menus. The Prophet ...

Re: SOMA Labs - The Pipe

Sorry to fall back on this truism, but you need to get them all because there's no way in advance to know which one will suit you best. In fact, all three are useful, with no one standing out. For me, they all suit depending on my whim. Ok thanks for that. Basically you're saying that each mic will...

Re: SOMA Labs - The Pipe

I finally have a Pipe, but still have to get one of the mics since I don't have one for it. I'm contacting Soma about getting the standard mic, but I'm wondering if I should get the Hi / Flat mic instead. I'm not sure if I'd want the bass mic, because I'm probably not going to do as much percussion,...

Re: Tasty Chips Electronics GR-1

Does anyone find selecting patches as weird as I do? Each performance has 32 patches in it and you can only select those 32 patches without having to go back in the file structure, right? The 'performance' idea is an odd choice to have to select patches. I don't understand why they didn't make this...

Re: Dave Smith hint of a new synth coming up in August

Yeah I feel the Prophet 10 is the right way to go. I'm not a fan of my notes being cut off when I don't want. And for the price, the Prophet 10 is a steal comparatively. Man, what a glorious time it to be a synth lover. This F-ing rocks :sb:

I guess it will be subjective, but I wonder how the higher sample rate will play out and if it will sound less gritty.

Re: New AKAI "FORCE" standalone MPC / grid controller

I want to like Force, but am finding that the menu system makes doing tasks longer than I want them to be. It's a really powerful sequencer/sampler, but I even find the sampling tedious. I prefer to keep my sampling and sequencing separate, one device for each. Though maybe if Force had an actual '...

Re: Just bought a ROM switcher for my Kawai R-100 drum machine

Has anyone tried any other ROMs for the R100/R50? You can burn your own ROMs or Reverb.com has a seller with ROMs listed of various drum machines. I've been looking at possibly getting a Yamaha RY-30 ROM for my R100 because I have one slot open in my rom switcher for the R100. I'm curious how differ...

Re: Gotharman's SpazeDrum

Here’s my trusty outdoor music gear by the way. We’re camping again this weekend and of course the SpazeDrum had to come with us ;) I’m powering it with a Harley Benton 9V/USB power bank and I’ve got a pair of decent Shure in-ear headphones. The four segment solar panel charges the power bank via U...

Re: Gotharman's SpazeDrum

Anyway, long story short: we’re lucky! Because the SpazeDrum offers to modulate the envelope stages! :yay: This lets us apply an old Serge modular synth trick to shape the curves of the envelopes further. For example, take the VCA Decay stage and modulate it with the inverse of itself (AENV-). We c...

Re: 1010music Blackbox - Compact Sampling Studio

Does anyone know if there's a way to use an x0x sequencer like the Arturia Beatstep Pro or maybe Synthstrom Deluge to toggle the steps of the Black Box's step sequencer on/off? I like the concept of this, but always prefer having access to x0x buttons.

Re: Tascam Model 12 (With Midi!)

Well it’s going for £520 or something , thing is you can get a 24 for £700. I guess if you don’t have the room. Sadly, the 24 hasn't got MIDI. newest firmware adds MIDI TC over USB. So will work with a DAW at least. So can the Model 24 and 16 now control your DAW faders and whatnot like the 1...

Does the neck strap and stand come with it now? I'm strongly considering buying a black Pipe finally. Still deciding on getting this or another effects unit. I have the SE80 and like it quite a bit. Has good bottom end to it and playing with the filters is quite fun. The ATC-1/X/i are all great sounding too. SE synths have always had 'tone' and character. Compared to many other modern budget analog monos, SE synths are like the big juicy and greasy delux...

Re: What about Zoom R16 as a mixer and audio interface?

The industry doesn't appear to be there yet as far as having a proper mixer with built in audio interface for DAW. There's mixers out there that can act as audio interfaces, but they lack proper FX sends/returns. It's a shame because there's a big market for this. I have a feeling more companies are...
