Re: I see Vlad's been hitting the bong again...

these things are normally 2 waves with a difference in frequency of the brain-state speed you're trying to attain, so you might go for 400hz left and 410hz right channel for a 10hz alpha waveband, listen in headphones, flashing lights of the same speed enhance the effect so probably easy to rig up w...

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

i would put the leds into those spacers and then put them in the pcb - if you have a panel already then i would attach the jacks etc through the panel to make sure they line up - including the leds, then solder them with the panel attached

I presume it's for noise reasons, may be possible to convert it to 2 layer, I don't know

Re: Teletype DIY?

it's a 4 layer board, going to make it pricier than normal, I could get some made if there's demand

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

try without first, but if you find any strange results take a look at the schematic and see if the missing voltage you're trying to measure goes through a pot or not

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

these are both analogue modules so you won't necessarily need to solder jacks but you might need to solder the pots

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

any psu will do, if it doesn't have other modules attached they won't get damaged, you could perhaps watch for smoke and hold your hand over the pcb to detect heat, if it gets really hot, switch power off immediately

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

i'm not sure, easiest is going to be powering it on and checking it out with some live voltages

With "20k" settings on the multimeter, Veils show 14.53. Ripples show 12.56.
if that kOhms then it's fine, if it's ohms you might have a problem

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

if you power it you can find out if it works or not... if you check the resistance between the 12v and gnd pins you can give yourself an idea if there are any short circuits, you can do this before powering the module, if the resistance is very low, you might have a short (or several), this will be ...

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

i think it's going to be easiest to plug it in and see, you can always just power on for a very short time to see if smoke comes out, there is not a huge amount you can do without powering the module. you can test for shorts without power however, if you measure the resistance between 12v and gnd (a...

yes, i thought you'd said ripples had 12v ok, so all your diodes are working?

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

yes, a diode only allows current to flow in one direction

want to try desoldering d2 and flipping it round?

be careful because you might toast it and need to remove it to fit a new one - if you happen to have a spare better to try a fresh one

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

ok, it's continuity through the diode in the right direction that we're looking for, if it's the wrong way round then there won't be continuity between n$11 on the power pin and c$16 on d2

ok, well you could continuity test the diode and see if it's facing the right way, has your diode got any orientation markings on?

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

did you get 12v? i would put the black probe on the power pin gnd and the red on the output of the diode

it's easy to create shorts doing this on smd parts, if you connect the wrong thing to gnd, so be careful.

Re: Searching a simple VCA DIY project

d2 needs to be correctly oriented or it'll block vcc, have you got 12v on the output of d2?
