Re: Best Euro Distortion modules 2020

For mild saturation on the grit I'd use the "out" instead of "dist", keep all feedback down, and push either the input hard or the ota vca, both have transistor saturatation above 75%. The input will saturate asymetrically, and the output will do tri to sin conversion. :tu:

Re: Mordax Data Buttons

You should contact mordax. I think it's some fairly heavy duty adhesive that they use, but they would be the ones to talk to.

Re: surface mount-- solder chips first

Huh, I've always soldered chips last. Especially since I usually douse everything in flux when I do the chips and even after I wash it the board stays sticky. A couple months ago I started getting stencils, placing everything by hand, then reflowing it all at once on a reflow station/heater, only us...

Re: Schlappi Engineering - Angle Grinder

Just got my new angle grinder (purchased new from pc). Love it but am running into some weird issues that make me think I may have accidentally been sent a defective unit or potentially abused floor model... all of the inputs react normal to patch cables except FM 1... in most cases it makes a craz...

Re: FPGA ideas

That's awesome so many people listened to the podcast! I've been using the ice40 up5k part from Lattice (the same one on the icebreaker). It is about $6 in low quantities, has 8 built in multipliers, and 5k LUTs. It's a really low power part, I'm seeing something like 20mA on the 3.3V rail running i...

Re: FPGA ideas

Ive been down this path for 6 months or so. You probably wont want to do anything requiring memory for a first project, reverb or delay involves interfacing with ram which can be tricky. An oscillator, vca, envelope etc are all very doable. But will involve implenenging i2s to talk to an adc or dac....

Hi! The Angle Grinder should track quite solidly over roughly 4 to 5 octaves(without any tricks), if it doesn't, send me an email (eric at schlappiengineering.com). I can send you the calibration procedure or calibrate it myself if you want to send it to me.

100 Grit processing the Tom Cat. Should fill in the power-electronics-with-a-budget-drum-machine shaped hole in the first demo video (with ample use of touch points.)

Re: Schlappi 100 grit

Anybody happen to catch what that "Body" module is in the lower left hand corner of the rack? He always seems to have cool prototypes in the case along with the things he's actually demoing, but I know they don't always see the light of day. If I remember right, it was a VCO prototype. At superboot...

100 Grit modules are now officially shipping. You can get them direct from my site or from your favorite retailer.

I put together a demo video showing it's using as a VCA. VCF, and distortion on basslines here:

I've been mostly heads down working on the 100 Grit for quite a while. The PLLaser hit some obstacles, the last version I showed was extremely complicated (twenty something CMOS logic chips) and was kind of unwieldy to use which made me rethink it a lot. It has two interwoven use cases, a (somewhat ...

Only the newest and shiniest seem to be on this list. It is worth noting that complicated pieces of digital hardware (especially sequencers)are rarely released bug-free (and sometimes not even feature complete). I do not have any direct experience with the sequencers on this list but some of the oth...

pretty stoked on this. the only plugins I have/need on my computer (aside from the built in reaper stuff) are the valhalla ones, so good.

I do use ubermod for delays sometimes but it is pretty limited (as that is not its primary thing).

yep, when I saw the price that was a quick one to get behind. can't count the number of times I've almost picked up a gameboy to use with this or lsdj. it would be really amazing if the sync and midi implementation were tight enough to use it with the modular, though I'll probably be happy enough if...

I've been doing some polyphonic patching lately, using the keystep with the FH-1 as my usb midi to CV converter and getting a -lot- of hanging/stuck notes.

I noticed there is a new firmware but details on what it covers are pretty slim, is this addressed or am I missing something?

placing a little linear regulator after a switching supply is how all the eurorack switching power supplies I have seen work. It is not a "hybrid", it is standard practice and still requires significant filtering and careful layout. my two cents is that if you have a large stationary system just get...

Does that help? Yes. It helps. However still confused. With the setting in the pic, sound disappears if "damping" knob goes after 9 o'clock toward CW. Nothing comes out of grind out or spin out. And all the LEDs around spin knob is gone. Is it normal? Yep! With no external input turning up the damp...

hi gummyboy Hi. Can anyone explain a bit more about the "damping"? I get so far... 1. For output of clean signal(like sine) from 4 spin outputs, it needs to be CCW. 2. It's used as resonance when AG is used as filter. However, it changes sound somehow when I get output from "grind" out. Big Thanks!!...

about 27mm behind the panel with a cable plugged in. Single PCB horizontal to the panel, very skiffable! 8-)
