Re: standard v/oct input range?

-3 to +7 is the more traditional value (it would be an output) Some analog exponential converters accept a bipolar signal with more accuracy near 0v so it makes sense to center v/oct near 0v. Analog oscillators will accept voct to the rails but tracking will get worse larger the voltage. So if you a...

Just wanted to say there -is- a new batch in the works (along with the 100 Grit and Interstellar Radio). I'm optimistically shooting for late November or early December to have Angle Grinders in stock again.

Re: Filters that do not cut the bass when you turn up the res

100 grit! I designed it, but this is one of the things I designed it for. Most filter types will lose bass as you turn up the resonance unless it is compensated for somehow, how this should be done depends on the filter topology. The Angle Grinder does not have compensation for volume/bass over reso...

Yep, never mind. Should have checked the data sheet before I spoke. Was thinking of a different soundplus op amp without the fet input.

Re: OPA1654 vs OPA1679

OPA1678/1679 are great FET input op amps. The best thing about them is they do not suffer from phase reversal when a signal gets near the rails (one of the biggest downsides to the tl072/74 in my opinion) and recover very gracefully from overload. You can (mostly) drop them into tl072/74 circuits. Y...

Re: 1BIT Multitap Delay by FEEDBACK [UPDATE]

A friend of mine gave me his build of this module. It seems like it is broken, it seems like the input to the delays are acting like a comparator, no input below a certain volume, square waves above. It's kind of awesome but extremely harsh and unlike the examples I'm hearing. The dry signal is fine...

Re: Tube distortion without the tubes

Sonocurrent mt2d is another dual nutube based distortion that I did the circuit design and layout for, the feedback paths, CV over mix and bias, and tilt eq allow it to go to some pretty special places.

Re: Best Euro Distortion modules 2020

For mild saturation on the grit I'd use the "out" instead of "dist", keep all feedback down, and push either the input hard or the ota vca, both have transistor saturatation above 75%. The input will saturate asymetrically, and the output will do tri to sin conversion. :tu:

Re: surface mount-- solder chips first

Huh, I've always soldered chips last. Especially since I usually douse everything in flux when I do the chips and even after I wash it the board stays sticky. A couple months ago I started getting stencils, placing everything by hand, then reflowing it all at once on a reflow station/heater, only us...

That's awesome so many people listened to the podcast! I've been using the ice40 up5k part from Lattice (the same one on the icebreaker). It is about $6 in low quantities, has 8 built in multipliers, and 5k LUTs. It's a really low power part, I'm seeing something like 20mA on the 3.3V rail running i...

Re: FPGA ideas

Ive been down this path for 6 months or so. You probably wont want to do anything requiring memory for a first project, reverb or delay involves interfacing with ram which can be tricky. An oscillator, vca, envelope etc are all very doable. But will involve implenenging i2s to talk to an adc or dac....

I've been mostly heads down working on the 100 Grit for quite a while. I do use ubermod for delays sometimes but it is pretty limited (as that is not its primary thing).
