Re: Arrangement and fluidity

There is a great YouTube playlist by Kirk DeGiorgio on the Sonic Academy channel where he builds a techno track from scratch and brings it all the way through to finished arrangement. He employs the subtractive technique mentioned above. Below should be video 1. I think arrangement is video 8 and 9....

Re: Disapointing Modules

I really thought the Xaoc Zadar quad EG/LFO would be the perfect module for my performance case. I incorrectly assumed that I could select one of my presets using CV. While you can select the built in presets, you cannot select the user saved ones. While otherwise a good module, this killed it for m...

Re: mobile aux speaker solution for eurorack

I am using the (Teenage Engineering designed) IKEA Frekvens as my portable speaker, mainly as there is a version with a sub and rear passive radiator so it goes down pretty low. The rechargable internal batteries are optional so remember that it you go for one. Thankfully the crappy front panels com...

Re: Book suggestions?

I second that "Making Music" by Dennis DeSantis is great.

Despite being published by Ableton, it is not Ableton focussed.
It is not so much a technical tutorial, rather a guide to assisting your brain with the creative process.
There are some cool ideas in it.

Great video. I think I will need to rewatch parts of it to get my head around some of the melodic sequencing bits. :)

Re: Do you patch live when performing?

I have a Flame CV recorder which allows me to record manual modulation (motion sequencing) to three sources so I will usually re-route those three patch cables but nothing else.

Re: Sample ecording triggered by sequencer

If your requirements are as simple as you suggest, have a look at the Pigtronix Infinity Looper pedal. https://pigtronix.com/infinity/#about I use one midi-synced to my sequencer. There are two loop channels. When you press record, it won't start recording until the beginning of the next bar, then i...

Re: Never meet your heroes

Not sure if I consider it a hero but the Lyra 8 definitely had some hype around it. Still seems to from the growing thread. I loved it for a few weeks and then that was it. I felt it had given everything it was ever going to give and it had to go. Sometimes being very good within a narrow range is g...

Re: Do you miss patch names on synths that can't display them?

Yes! I love naming my own patches. They’re like a micro-journal. I’ll often name them for things that are happening in my life at the time, or after something in a book I am reading. Then months later I’ll revisit the patch and remember, oh yeah, remember that phrase I lifted from the Lord of the R...

Re: RECOMMENDATION: Live Looping Hardware

I use a Pigtronix Infinity Looper. It is a pedal with two midi synced loop channels and independent volume knobs. What I like is that when I press the switch, it won't start recording until the beginning of the next bar and it automatically stops recording and starts playing and the end of the selec...

Re: Jomox ALPHA BASE

The old airbase99 is s great pairing for the cirklon. It certainly is. I replaced my X-Base 09 with an Airbase when I got a Cirklon. I'm still drawn to the Alphabase but wish they made a rack mount version. I have a few decent euro drum modules so feel the full Alphabase is a bit hard to justify co...

Customs and duties can be a coin toss regardless of which way it is going. I've had some very nice things get through with no charge and conversely had some surprising bills which took much of the pleasure of of an arrival.

While probably a pain to programme, this looks gorgeous to me. If I was a player this is what I would want in my living room. Edit, inspired by this image, I just did a search for DX5s and now think this photo is particularly flattering. Viewed from directly above, the top panel is not as clean as i...

Re: most beautiful synthesizers

I realise that aesthetics are subjective but there are very few synths on this thread that I would consider remotely attractive, despite the desire for some of them. I mean, no doubt an MPC is an iconic instrument and a customised one can be a lovely thing, but beautiful? I'm not sure. Anyway, here ...

Re: budget Grooveboxes w/ sample editing

The Electribe 2 Sampler seem good value. I just bought a used one for €300 but it hasn't been delivered yet. Looks quite small, runs on batteries, can sample (with editing), can midi sequence external gear, can be sequenced and also be used as a effects box. I know it has limitations but as an inexp...

Glad you are enjoying it! I actually haven't tried midi CCs yet, but should give that a whirl. Also need to confirm if it syncs to midi clock. Was having issues in that department with a friend's MPC.
Thanks. That would be great 😁

What about the Magma stand that is designed to hold a large DJ controller? It looks like an oversized laptop stand. I'd post a link but can't right now.
