Re: [AVAILABLE] TTSH V4 Build Thread

I’m going to try something with the speakers used in this project: https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=236602 The built in radiator and speaker box are intriguing but they are 4 Ohm There are some problems with running the on-board amps with 8 ohm loads (Peerless speakers), so 4 ...

Re: [AVAILABLE] TTSH V4 Build Thread

The center of the S&H circuit is Q4 2N4392. I would trace outward from there in three directions. The clock impulse is coming in from the bottom right in the schematic. On the collector of Q5 BC558 you should see the clock signal transformed into very quick spikes (negative going IIRC). You should s...

Re: [AVAILABLE] TTSH V4 Build Thread

Just finishing up my first TTSH and have a puzzling issue with the ADSR. Everything else is working and calibrated. VCO calibration was one of the quickest i’ve ever done (few turns and perfect). I’ve poured over the schematics and circuit description but can’t see the wood from the trees so any hi...

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

@KSS I mean Non-Conductive Plugging.. But this is not available by the cheapest chinese fabs. Can you provide a link? I still don't understand what you mean. Plugging the hole -conductively AKA solder or not AKA LPI Solder mask- does nothing to insulate the via's annular rings from contact with con...

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

Well that's embarrassing... I did leave two of the sliders in the mix section partially un-soldered. They must have just been pressing in against the PCB when I first turned it on. Soldered those and now all the LEDs are all back on. Now I just need to look at VCOs 1 and 2. For some reason those ar...

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

Summer is slow for me and since I can't go out and have fun, I decided to finish my final TTSH build and the first for myself. It's a V3 r8, and I finally fired it up. There are a few issues that I'm going to work on but on the whole I'm happy so far. Oscillators are buzzing and things are happenin...

Re: TTSH NOISE MISTAKE? R2 missing

I would describe the problem with the noise circuit like this: it contains random frequencies, but has less than random gain values. It is clipped such that the output voltage spends extra time at either the positive or negative extremity of its range. This is easy to see on my old analog scope. It...

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

I noticed that the PWM slider is a little off. The slider at exactly half way is showing up as a 40%-ish square. VCO2 is very close to 50% at same position. Every TTSH is like this, usually a bit more off-center for VCO3 than VCO2, but both off-center. Every time I kvetch about this, I put the phon...

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

Thanks fuzzbass! I have tried swapping cards but have same issue. I hate sockets as well. I’ll try retouching the main board sockets but it’s strange that only the pwm/square is fluctuating on vco2. The saw is solid without any movement. I’ve checked the cv summing section before and didn’t see any...

Re: TTSH Ver.3 (rev.8) General build thread

Built the new boards and I am getting slightly lower vpp numbers but I also hand picked every part using a lab multimeter. I was very surprised at how far off some of the resistors were, much larger than the advertised 1% range. Everything seems fine except vco2 square out. The freq is fluctuating ...

Re: [AVAILABLE] TTSH V4 Build Thread

I have the Hakko suck gun too, and I could not face the future without it. But for this one job of removing while preserving some sliders, the Hakko is an expensive and avoidable purchase. If your resources are tight, use braid, sweetened with extra flux. Add solder to the joint and tip if necessary...

Re: [AVAILABLE] TTSH V4 Build Thread

SYNC Question: My osc 2 is fine and soft-sync free, but osc3 gets some soft sync, and I can hear it change shifting the cables around. While osc2 is not affected by the sync switch for osc3, i get worse soft sync on osc 3 when osc 2 switch is engaged. I think I can basically get it to stop by cable...

I am building a v3 "kit" that I purchased from a fellow MuffWiggler -- going slow and trying to make any mistakes... Re: Two Thousand Six Hundred (TTSH) Ver.2 General build thread

Hamildad, I don't see where you indicated that you used the switch riser pcbs, or whether any of them were rotated 180 degrees. You can inspect for correct rotation visually. The end of the riser with five little through holes should be oriented toward the audio side of the switch. I know that a rot...

Re: [AVAILABLE] TTSH V4 Build Thread

I went through the calibration process again and the noise output is supposed to be 10vpp I am thinking of just upping the resistor on the output. Is there any reason why that would be a bad idea? Also when calibrating the VCOs I plugged a TR cable into the headphone out and got some smoke from the...

Re: Two Thousand Six Hundred (TTSH) Ver.2 General build thread

Hamildad, did you use the little riser PCBs for your switches? If you did, check to see of the one in VCO2 is rotated 180 degrees. If it is, this can short something out in the CV summing section. (for what it's worth, I have always advised people not to use these).

Re: [AVAILABLE] TTSH V4 Build Thread

Do the TTSH kits use mica or polystyrene for the 680p and .015u timing caps? If polystyrene is involved, it may have been damaged during soldering. Less likely for other fim caps, but still possible. Synthcube kit includes styrenes for the 680p on the 4027-1 and C0Gs for the 15n caps on the VCO sec...

Do you remember offhand which one is the noise transistor? I don't have the schematic - don't know if it's posted in this thread anywhere, I haven't read the whole thing yet.
