Re: Fender Champion 600 + bass guitar

When you do get a bass amp, pay attention to the cabinet. You want a closed-back cabinet for deep, tight low end. Most bass specific cabs are closed-back, but not all. And just passing on the general advice to pay attention to the cab you get. The old portaflex tone for instance has a lot to do with...

Re: Fender Champion 600 + bass guitar

Yep you'll be fine—just don't turn up too loud (you'll start to hear speaker distortion if you do). Many classic recordings like most of the things Carol Kaye is on (Beach Boys, etc) are recorded through Fender guitar amps—twin reverbs or deluxe reverbs, I can't remember which. Bass amps really didn...

Re: Ahhh... P Bass or J Bass.

It makes sense to follow what your musical influences use—if most of the players you like use a jazz, get a jazz. If what you listen to is a mix of everything, your MM sub and a good p-bass should cover most of it very well.

Re: Ahhh... P Bass or J Bass.

A stingray is much closer to a jazz bass in the musical ground that it covers—bouncy, springy, funkier sorts of sounds. A P bass would be a greater contrast. But go to a music store that has different sorts of P basses; there are many different p-bass lines at this point and within each line, indivi...

Re: Harmoniums

What harmonium did you end up getting? What else led you to choose it? I got the Swaranjali 828S its a standard model. I didn't want a portable/collapsable model as I wouldn't be traveling with it. I've read that standard models have less moving parts and are slightly more reliable with less of a c...

Re: Harmoniums

Looking here too Trilo. Trying to find something a bit richer and more complex sounding than the run-of-the-mill instruments.

Lots of harmonium on those first few xiu xiu records (which are excellent)! Though Jamie's Harmonium sounds pretty run-of-the-mill.

Re: 1010music Blackbox - Compact Sampling Studio

If you are recording into the BB, or monitoring an audio input, is there latency to the signal you're hearing back through your headphones? Phrased differently, can you directly monitor the signal at the inputs, or is the monitored signal you're hearing always post- AD and DA conversion? Received a...

Same, zero interest in these modelling things. I have a wonderful amp I love the sound of, full of NOS 50s and 60s Mullard and RCA tubes
I'm with you. What amp are you using?

Re: Best headphone amp / iOS interface for bass guitar?

This doesn't answer your specific question, but if you have a DI, you can just DI right into your DAW and monitor from your DAW. Since a lot of bass recordings are DI anyway, this seems like the most straightforward way to go? I also just bought a nice valve guitar amp that happens to have a headpho...

Re: ALM Squid Salmple - 8 channel CV and audio sampler

Pams and Squid are going to be a lot to kick off with but they will get clicking quickly. I'd say VCAs/LPGs, at least one additional modulation source, and some logic can come after that, but really what are you hoping to do as you fill out the case? 1u row can get you some very handy modules witho...

Re: Why can't I record a guitar tone for shit?

It's both, but if you have one mic, then use it, only way to get a good tone is to experiment. Put cans on and scan around the amp with the mic listening for where it sounds good. I run a DI electric guitar signal from DAW through Reamp to amp, makes it easier. It's a bit hard to scan as my amp is ...

Re: ALM Squid Salmple - 8 channel CV and audio sampler

Squid Salmple noob question here: I have resisted modular for soo long but this module may be the one to break me. What would be the minimum setup for being able to get results, of at least some variation and interest, out of the SS? The SS seems to do a lot and as someone new to the modular game w...

Re: Why can't I record a guitar tone for shit?

Yeah, try a load and see what works. I like SM57 or Senn 906 for dynamic up close, KM84 or any LDC a bit further back for room tone. FYI much prefer an SM7b to an SM57 because it doesn't have that SM57 spikiness which I think is nasty if you're recording digitally. Lots of ppl have both of these mi...

Re: THE SPACE CASE TE-2 - Eurorack / Standalone Echo + Tape Unit

Thanks a bunch. Sounds very cool. I would love to hear what it sounds like at maximum stability and fidelity, no echoes, on some acoustic recorded material—an acoustic guitar track, a guitar cab, a straight vocal, those sorts of things. Im interested this as a subtle tape saturator for those sorts o...

Re: THE SPACE CASE TE-2 - Eurorack / Standalone Echo + Tape Unit

In this video he's using the Marantz to add some degredation (not echoes) to the audio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAyW4GgHoDc I imagine this would be possible with the TE-2. Full wet, no feedback on the delay and use the built-in sequencer to affect some parameters (?) Very much so. Will put ...

Re: THE SPACE CASE TE-2 - Eurorack / Standalone Echo + Tape Unit

Is it possible—a la the RE-501—to set the TE-2 to one single echo and record the echo sound while monitoring only the unaffected (and therefore undelayed) input sound? Ie. I’d like to record through the TE-2 for just tape saturation without echoes but obviously I’d like to be able to monitor without...
