Re: Capturing inspiration

Do you never set foot near a synth without your DAW (or hardware sequencer) running? Are you super vigilant with set up so that gear never needs fiddling about with? Are you super strict with yourself such that if you really are that inspired you force yourself through the obstacles to at least get...

Re: Modular as diffusor?

Yeah, they are sold as Neumann speakers now. Check this page for the following docs:
  • Setting up Studio Monitors Guide (English)
  • Test Signals and Instruction for Setting up Subwoofer-based Systems (English)
The operating manuals for the subs might also contain useful information.

Re: Modular as diffusor?

It’s certainly interesting, and i will try it out 👍 would not also just using a EQ on the master be just as good? Only dialing in some spesific peaks? Without having experience with said software, i would possible have more understanding and control over the corrections? Getting the acoustic measur...

Re: Modular as diffusor?

Well, we are not looking at strong cancellations here so a filter boost is likely to help. All of these solutions both cut and boost to even out the response. Sonarworks let’s you restrict the maximum amount of boost to avoid crazy filter curves. I have a separate computer with an RME FF400 set up a...

Re: Modular as diffusor?

At this point you can also consider using digital filters to even out the room response in the sweet spot. Automatic solutions like Sonarworks and ARC have gotten pretty good in recent years and remove the pitfalls of DIY acoustic measurements. I am successfully using Sonarworks in my treated studio...

Not sure if I’ll manage to keep doing them on a weekly basis, but it’s fun to put these longer videos on Instagram. Re: Mungo Enterprises d0, dual channel Delay

I was merely pointing out that the documentation does not take into account the needs of the users, which is quite obvious based on this thread alone. User needs might not meet a manufacturer’s expectation, but they are still real. Not sure what mental models have to do with anything or why you’d f...

Re: Room correction software?

Employing digital filtering for room correction and acoustic treatment are not mutually exclusive. In a well-treated room, filtering can vastly improve results, especially the low-frequency response of the overall system. It is important to note that a set of filters only works well in one particula...

Textures, Gestures on IGTV

Hi everyone, I thought I should give IGTV a try. To kick things off I have started a series of outtakes and explorations from what might become an Ambient album. Textures, Gestures #1 Currently I am finding joy in asynchronous loops, employing both tape and crude digital sampling. For the first loop...

Re: Mungo Enterprises d0, dual channel Delay

for pm you need two oscillators anyway, i have not used a selfoscillating d0 channel for this, judging only from ear, that isn't a clean sine wave and i prefer clean sine waves for pm. to explain the pm patch a bit: put your "carrier" sine into channel b, set it's delay time to minimum and then add...

Re: Mackie's Onyx Series Returns

Incredibly disappointed in this. I have a Mackie Onyx 1640i that I’ve had for 10 years and it’s getting long in the tooth - scratchy faders, crosstalk between channels, flakey mutes, and it’s firewire - but it’s the most fully equipped mixer of its type ever made. Every single time Mackie announces...

Anyone having experience with the big Neumann kh310 Monitors in a small studio? Are they also good for 'quiet' listening or need to be blasted? Re: current favorite eq plugins?

I use Ableton EQ 8 on almost everything. Mostly cuts and notches, as well as gentle balancing. Even though I'd love some of the features ProQ has (piano roll with snapping, dynamic EQ), the overall integration of EQ8 in terms of GUI, automation, and external control just beats any other EQ for me. I...

IC pullers easily bend if a knob is properly stuck on the shaft. I’ve had success with bike tire levers, but it can be hard to not put dents in the knob with any tool.

2. I also like exploring the edges of boring plugins in Ableton like Chorus/Phaser, Granular, Flanger. Again throw tons of modulation on it and make it sing. This reminds me of a video I recorded a while ago. It shows using EQ 8 as a pinged resonator, programmed using Macro assignments/ranges: http...

I love using the iPad as granular synth, especially with live capture or even realtime input. Borderlands is great since it uses the touch interface in a meaningful way, and the ability to layer and combine recordings is great. I am also using FRMS if I want a more full-blown synth—sounds great, wor...

I was able to fix a lot of supposedly faulty, older Stackcables by thoroughly wiping the plugs with alcohol. Connections especially when stacked were crackling and dropping out before. A friend recommended this. Didn’t really make sense to me, but it worked.

Anyone knows if a 4 individual INPUT mod would be technically possible as well?
I cannot elaborate on the details, but when I asked about it initially, Derek assessed that this would be much more complicated if not impossible without breaking basic functionality of the module.

I’d look into other headphones option then to be honest, especially ones that are more forgiving in terms of amplification than high impedance headphones like the Beyer. Re: Do my outs have enough oomph?

I’d say if you treat yourself with headphones like that, get a proper headphone amp to power them for best SNR, frequency response, and minimal distortion. The power situation in a Euro case alone won’t allow for a performance anywhere near a dedicated headphone amp. Lake People G series are solid a...
