Re: Arturia PolyMatrix / PolyBrute coming?

Morphing features have been a round for quite a while (and often barely commented on) in synths such as the Yamaha AN1x and EX5 from the 90s which used two 'scene' buttons each with different parameter settings which could be smoothly morphed between via an assigned modulation wheel. I think somethi...

Re: Cwejman ADSR's impact on sound

Regarding the difference between Doepfer’s A-140 and A-141 (original), have a look at the layouts on the DIY/timing capacitor page: http://www.doepfer.de/DIY/a100_capacitors.htm 'Adding' VC makes it a different circuit... Thanks for that link and info Navs . I have an old A-141 that I want to tweak...

Re: Cwejman ADSR's impact on sound

... However the Frequency central System X ADSR is totally awesome, but it doesnt have the same CV control as the Cwejman. Hope I'm not stretching this thread off course too much, but I'm contemplating getting the FC System X (dual) ADSR kit on that widely positive reputation, but wondered if an at...

Re: PCB shelf life

As others have hinted you should be fine. A year or two back I successfully finished two old Paia 9700 series projects with no problems whatsoever, using second hand unpopulated PCBs which were already 10 years in my possession at the time and could have been anything up to 17 years old from date of...

Re: What Amp / Monitors do you use in your home for Synth?

I'm using a pair of Genelec 1029a. They could really use a sub, but I have abstained in consideration of my wife who has an office on the floor below my studio. They run off a Mackie 1402-VLZ3. With balanced wiring everywhere the system sounds quite nice. I'm currently using a pair of these great l...

Re: How do you describe modular to laypeople?

If there's a standard keyboard synth nearby I point to it and explain that, although versatile, its electrical innards (its modules) are in a fixed arrangement determined by its manufacturer. Then I point to the modular and say with this you can do what that can, but also so much more, because as yo...

Re: The modules you have in double, triple, quadruple ...

My comparatively recent modular journey has been more disjointed than most (I go back a long way with non-modular synths) and without my previous studio space, these days everything 'studio' is limited and makeshift as I concentrate more on DIY projects in my relatively small living space. Hope to r...

Re: Perhaps I need to take a break

Just come upon this thread. I've come across some great sounding large refrigeration units in certain supermarkets, especially when they're not apparently working optimally... some wonderfully engaging, often fearsome, rackets to behold! Sometimes I wonder if it looks like I'm loitering unnaturally ...

Re: Arturia Minibrute 2! / [EDIT - and now 2S!]

I got a MB2 Keyboard the other day for like $245 on Guitar Center (listed incorrectly) and I have to say....as a former of a Matrixbrute... the MB2 just sounds better. I don't know exactly what it is. I think the sound has more clarity/edge to it. It's also a lot bigger than I expected. I ordered a...

Why are almost all of the entries from before 1990? No Björk, BoC, Broadcast, James Blake, Kaytlin Aurelia Smith, LCD SS, Wu Tang, Thom Yorke, or...Miley Cyrus?! :miley: Always thought this BoC track had something for appeal beyond the hard core fans. Wish they'd done a bit more of this 'bold' stro...

I reckon Ravenstine's keyboardless 'pure' synth work complements the other band instruments, in those instances, near perfectly. I remember Davi...

Ha... so many of these I'd also nominate. This is really a bit of fun isn't it? If Autobahn by Kraftwerk could be considered a song, then for me, that would probably be it. Nice to see I Feel Love, Warm Leatherette and even Bernard Szajner's Welcome (To Death Row) mentioned. That largely modular sou...

Re: Lead forming

For years I was happy to just bend the leads by eye with reasonably neat results, but I've recently bought a widely available and cheap plastic 'preset' lead former and I use it all the time for increased neatness. I like the way this variant (usually in blue but also in red) has a selection of widt...

Re: Friendly Rant on Lack of Vertical Case Designs

Maybe not a prime consideration, but ensure the PSUs aren't overburdened and allow plenty of airflow ventilation through the enclosure since heat build up may be more pronounced in such a vertical stack.

Re: VCF for ambient / drone

Plenty of worthy suggestions here. I would lean towards a dual/stereo multimode or state variable filter of some description, to give a sense of space with generous independent CV control options for cutoff, resonance and mix thus affording lots of opportunities for relatively slow subtle tonal/harm...

Re: connect analogue systems RS-35 module to eurorack case?

Hmm. If I'm seeing things right it appears this particular RS-35 has been fitted with an adaptor to give the choice of using an Analogue Systems ribbon power connector or the standard Eurorack connector. So you could bypass that ribbon connector you have in the photo and just use a standard all fema...

Re: Analog Oscs with CV over Waveform Shape

The oft overlooked Analogue Systems Euro RS-95 and RS-95e analogue VCO can do this 'waveshaping' to its three standard waveforms. There's the usual PWM, but also an independent +/- 2 V range "CV IN SHAPE" for smoothly morphing the upward rising sawtooth/ramp through to a triangle (at 0 v) and on to ...
