Re: Dunnington 281D build thread

At the PCB end each wire pad is marked. At the EDAC end the pin numbers are specified in the BOM (in the notes for the power cable wires). For reference though: Pin 1: Q Pin 2: -15V Pin 3: +15V Pin 4: +12V A polarising key should be fitted in pin 7 to prevent the possibility of reverse connection. T...

Re: what do you use in kicad for banana jack symbol?

A banana socket is a single pin connector so the generic single pin connector symbols from the included Connector library are perfectly fine - they are not tied to a particular footprint so the fact that it is a banana will be determined by the choice of footprint, not the schematic symbol. I use th...

Re: Buchla Easel Command: volumes of channel A and channel B differ

If the design is close to the original, this is normal, and is related to how the complex oscillator is routed through the modulator circuit when in a.m. mode. Flick the modulation switch to f.m. or balanced external and the output volumes should be identical, that will confirm that it's working as ...

Re: 266 PCB rev 3 fault - QRV outputs swapped

I fixed this with two trace cuts (one on the other side of the board) and two wire links, which is the same as what you've done but maybe a little neater. The QRV outputs travel to the other board on pins 4A and 4B of the connector so you can just cut the traces that run to these pins and then recon...

Re: Amplifying kick drum

You'll need to provide a schematic for the output amplifier you are adding - some of your numbers are not terribly clear (0.5x gain would give an output half the amplitude of the input - do you mean 1.5x? Are these measured values or an indication of how loud your ears perceive the output to be?) an...

Re: Dunnington 281D build thread

Just to be sure, on a faithful Buchla setup, should I omit the **99 components highlighted in the build doc as needed for a standard gate? Also, could someone perhaps upload a high-res image of a completed board? I find this can usually answer most questions for me. Yes, you can leave off the *99 c...

Re: Capacitor in audio path.

the highest film I can find ECH-U1H224GX9 only covers the 0.22uf and it's not that cheap and fairly big. it also says it has a life of 500 hours so kinda off-putting. That's 500 hours at the maximum working voltage, temperature and humidity. In less extreme circumstances they will last many orders ...

Can you give a more specific explanation of what you mean by "messing with the program cards"?

Re: Dunnington 258D build thread

I ordered one from AliExpress which arrived today. Sad to say it is essentially useless, at least for this purpose. It does not make proper contact with the transistor pins at all. That's a bummer to hear. I can absolutely vouch for the Peak test jig linked above, I have tested hundreds of transist...

Turned out to be the 3906 pairs! I has assumed they were symmetrical, but they aren't - teaches me for next time! I'm now basking in quad AD goodness
Excellent! And a good catch - the pin 1 marker on those isn't super easy to see. I'll update the notes PDF to highlight this.

Re: Dunnington 258D build thread

Apologies for the distraction. Not at all! These are kind of close to my ideal 258s but I know they won't be everybody's. I'm definitely interested in feedback and ideas to make the board more flexible, so although I wouldn't build one with a switch it would be cool to see other people do it. It sh...

Re: Dunnington 258D build thread

I'm looking at the 258D and see it =appears= instead of hard-wiring for saw or square one could wire those connections out to a 3PDT switch for square/saw selection per oscillator...the question is then, depending upon what sort of PCB-mount pots you use, is there 15mm between the front panel and P...

Re: New approaches in Buchla format DIY

That's great! So finally one could build a Buchla system and get rid of those expensive EDAC connectors... My little clone system uses MTA156 connectors and normal 1/8" audio jacks instead of tini-jax. So I'm probably going to be tarred and feathered (sorry- i had to) for it, but it works fo...

Re: Buchla Easel Mods (Dunnington Audio or Others?)

Thanks Papz. Yes, if you have wiper contact IC sockets, the boards will fit, but it will deform the contacts in the socket so they will no longer hold an IC. It's also likely that this will put stress on the solder joints of the pins on the sustain board so for long term reliability the preferred me...

Does anybody have a close-up high-res pic of an original? Does anybody know the actual process Don used to grain his panels? There are scans of a couple of panels on synthfool. They're fairly similar to what the EMS ones look like but not exactly the same. I'm one of the fussy customers who re-pane...

That looks really great! Any plans for more modules? Perhaps even a 218? Some vague ideas but nothing very concrete right now. I was chipping away at these for about a year on and off, and the things I personally need most as of now would probably be new designs, so I wouldn't hold your breath, but...
